This is not a scam. There was a bomb scare on MIT campus and the number called to alert me.
You have to call your community leader's office and ask to have your number removed from the call list. You may not remember doing it but you had to sign up for the service to get the calls. Call City Hall.
This is the Code Red Alert line............received a call this morning from my city alerting that there was an issue with the main phone lines for the City Hall. They did leave a message on my cell phone........which I did sign up for the alerts. This is one of the few legit calls that I receive on my cell that is definitely not a scammer.
This is a service commonly referred to as Reverse 911. It is used to quickly get emergency messages out to the community (in the event of wildfires, chemical spills, evacuations, and other emergencies where it is imperative to get the word out quickly to as many people as possible). I just came to this site because I just received a call from this number, and before I checked my message and found out that they were announcing a missing child in my neighborhood. Why the caller ID does not say who the call comes from, I don't know, but for those of you disparaging this service, I certainly hope it is never your child that disappears or your neighborhood that has a major emergency situation. As for the doctor complaining about getting calls in the OR, turn off the stupid phone while you are doing "emergency surgery". Now that I know what the call was about, I'm glad I got the message, even though I did get it at 10 p.m.
It's a Code Red alert. Just got a call that they were searching for an escaped convict. I like that they do this.
Called at 11:52 pm 5/18 and woke everyone in the household up. Called again at 12:01 am 5/19 with the same message. Very irritated that they are calling households so late at night.
This was a call about a road closure from a collapsed culvert and pending construction schedule.
