Dear ECN Community:I didn't sign up to receive your calls. I don't need your services, and your calls annoy me. I am perfectly capable of sticking my head out the door and seeing that it's hot, or that it's raining; I have the means to deal with sex offenders, and for any criminals you may be hunting; I can probably figure out that there's an issue with the water when I turn on the faucet and I don't have any; and the list goes on. I really can't think of a good reason for you to bother me. If others choose to accept your calls, or don't have the skills I do to check the weather and/or take care of themselves, then let them accept your calls and be grateful. I, for one, don't appreciate a nanny state. So it'd be appreciated if you'd handle my request to be removed from your call list as soon as possible.Thanks.Sincerely,People Who Enjoy Thinking For Themselves
Why did you have you cell phone on in emergency surgery LINDA ROBINSON now that is stupid.
If this is an emergency reporting service and you have to sign up for it why are they calling people who haven't signed up for it? It feels to my gut like a scam. Did your local news report any of the emergencies that you were warned about?
ECN COMMUNITY ... It's a standard nationwide number ... it's for all over the country, but they only give you the important information relevant to your area/town. As far as I know, it's legitimate. They called here tonight at 9:30pm to tell us there was a major water-main break and to boil all water before drinking it and also as a result they had to impose water restrictions due to the water-main break ... not b/c of a drought. A few months ago they also called to inform all local residents there would be early evening flash-floods due to a bad storm coming in and to avoid driving in those areas and surrounding area ... and there were a few major road floods and later road closures that night. So, I kind of appreciate the heads-up.
Most 800# calls are telemarketers or debt-collectors looking for someone or a scamming con-artist. But, read my post. I live just outside of NYC and if you read my post ... ECN is not a scam. If you call the number back, a recording comes on that tells you what they were calling about. I think it's a good service to have.
So your in surgery, and you have your cell phone there with you? Yes, this goes into the "dumbing down of America". As other people said, this call could save you or your familys life. But now that I think of it, maybe we would all be better off with you not breathing good air.
If this is a code red in Colorado, why did I receive it in Idaho? There was no message, just the call....twice today.
Earlier today, I received a real emergency alert from my town's own system with its own special Caller ID. They always leave a message if you do not pick up so that you can respond even if you did not get to the phone right away. I was going to write here that this was a scam. Now I am not so sure. Here is why. I called this number. It is the Plymouth County (MA) Sheriff's office. They said that they use this number when there is an emergency. So it is possible that our town, which is near Boston, called them and asked them to broadcast in Plymouth County as well. But Plymouth County Sheriff's Office didn't know for sure. Then I called my local police department which had broadcast its own emergency alert earlier in the day as described above. They said they were unaware of any request to Plymouth to broadcast. So this one is anybody's guess as to spam or not.
This is spam. I never signed up for this service but somehow they have my name and phone number on file..
