Person trying to tell me my computer had been infected with malicious software. I asked which computer and he said mine, I asked again my Dell or HP and he said both (I own neither). At this point I called him an idiot and asked him to remove me from his list. He became very aggressive with his words and told me I had no idea who he is but that he had my phone number.
I just got this call oddly enough after I got a message asking me to update my AVG. Not wanting to do this from the pop up I looked upAVG, got their number, then called. A tech from India then wanted to log on to my computer to check things out before I downloaded the update. I sensed a rat right away, made an excuse, then hung up. When he called back I knew it was a scam. Then I got this call from Bristol, amazing. And very concerning as I'm an old guy who is not tech savy.
We have the same just NOW! They want to hook up with our computer. Good thing, we are not that stupid!Scam stay away.
Received same call few minutes ago. Claimed to be windows tech and wanted to repair my errors. I hung up on him. Why anything can’t be done to stop these people from scamming the naïve makes no sense to me
A male with accent claimed that he was calling from microsoft, stated that I had computer problems he needed to access my computer to fix it. I believed it was a scam and declined.
Instead of the police, which they won't care about if they're in India, I tell them my wife makes those decisions. I then hold the phone away and say loudly enough for them to here "There's a guy reporting a problem from Microsoft (or whatever). Do you want to talk to him?" Then I wait a couple of seconds and say "She'll be here in a minute. OK?" Then I see how long they'll wait. It's usually only a couple of minutes, but if most of the people they call could tie them up for a few unproductive minutes, we could reduce their income dramatically.
got a call from 860-540-6999 and claimed as Geek Support and asked about how was my computer doing?? first, my computer is OK, second, i never call any tech support, third, i'm a computer guy and i can fix things myself. so i told him he got wrong number and just hung up the call. luckily then i googled the phone number and found this scam !!
I just received a call sounded like what most of the comments said. He said he was with Windows and they were detecting a problem with my PC. I asked him which one and he just kept repeating himself that they detected a problem with my PC. He was rude and kept talking over me. I finally very loudly advised that since you cant tell me which PC this is a scam and I am on the do not call list - he hung up on me :(
Please, please everyone, let your elderly loved ones know about these type of scams. I have mentioned these before to my mother but she not knowing fell for one of these scams. Yep, it's Thanksgiving day and me and mom were just sitting at the table reading a newspaper so I took the call and put it on speaker phone for her to hear. Geek support yada, yada, about a virus scam. I played along just like any unsuspecting person would do. Asked various questions, what virus was it sending, how did he know, gave me the actual virus code 000Cfd7D062, Told me to turn on my computer, and find the command prompt and I asked lots of questions of what screens I need to see. Blah blah, more things for me to do and me well more questions to ask as I was supposedly dumb at this computer sort of thing and played the elderly card. Told me the virus number was internally and that I could not find the number on the outside of my computer. I wanted him to tell me that what model computer I had. Lots of dumb questions I asked, blah, blah, Oh my gosh, yes, I needed this fixed. I could almost hear "hooked a sucker" on the other end of the phone. Ha! Told me that he could help me with everything but I just needed to follow his instructions. Told me to go to the windows prompt and type R. I couldn't find it so he asked if I saw the windows picture on the lower left on my keyboard. I still couldn't find what he was asking for. I asked what the "R" would do and he said that he would be able to help me fix my computer. Well....mom had then heard enough and when I said "I don't think I want to do this" he immediately hung up.So please inform your elderly people of these type of scams as it is just awful they these jerks take advantage of innocent people. And you know that do and such a shame! I'm so glad that mom could hear how convincing they could be. Just wish more people were aware.
I must've gotten the same guy! I work for a software company, so I know I wouldn't be getting a random call from someone knowing I have a virus. He told me someone was hacking into my computer. I asked him how he would know that and what the issue is. I kept asking questions to catch him off-guard and he started getting irritable. I finally said "well I'm at work", to which he replied " well, if you're at work, then someone is just going to hack into your computer." I said "well that would suck" and hung up. Stupid scammers. Get a real job.
