I never answer my phone that come in with 1888 or 1800 etc. This number 1888-123-4567 look fake to me...now that I've read the threads of others I think I will answer and play with their heads...the crazy thing about this is my phone number can't be listed. Its not a real number "voice over IP" Well anything that travel over the internet can be hacked. I went to google.com. and typed in the fake number and found this thread.
Got a call from this # that inexplicably hung up and was tempted to call it back. First try said I needed to dial 1 with the number. The digits are too pat for my liking and I got suspicious. Looks like my instincts were correct.

I got a call from this # today. It says unknown name. Go on donotcall.gov to file a complaint. That's what I did. I do not do business with any of the companies mentioned for this bogus # 123-4567. I have been on the DNC list 2+ years, so they are in serious error and I hope filing an official complaint helps??
After attempts to block this number, which can not be done, I answered and the lady said she was from Wells Fargo,told her not to call here anymore and she just laughed at me. They STILL CALL, and will not stop
I have received calls from 888-123-4567 sometimes 5 times a day. I never answer it and they do not leave a message. I do have a mortgage with Wells Fargo in Ohio, but am living in Wisconsin. I have recently updated my info w/ Wells Fargo, and my WI phone number is registered with the do not call registry. I guess good ole' Wells Fargo sold my number.
Got one of these calls today. Didn't answer, and they didn't leave a message when my answering machine picked up. I don't have any business with Wells Fargo, so not sure how I might have gotten on their list. Perhaps there might be another company out there using the same scheme.

It is a legit PNC Bank phone no. I wrote out a $12000. check and they called to verify and had the last 3 digits of checking acct. on message.
