I received a call from MJR who were trying to collect a debt from 7 years ago. The guy was rude, so I returned the favour and was rude right back. I told him I have no intention of paying a 7 year old debt which is no longer on my credit report as it was removed last year. He kept calling me a deadbeat and I told him he won't be making any commission off of me and if he wants to keep calling we will become great phone friends. He said he will take me to court, and when I told him he was 5 years too late as the statue of limitations on taking legal action in Ontario is 2 years from the date of last activity he got really pissed and hung up. I called him back and told him he should not be rude to his new phone friend and he hung up again.The bottom line is that if 2 years have past since the date of last activity the only thing they can do is call, but if you tell them you have no intention of paying the debt and you are extremely polite to them they will stop calling you. These guys earn a small base salary which is a bit above minimum wage and a good commission on what they can collect. If they know they won't collect a cent from you they will move on.

You will also find out he has no written authorization from the creditor he claims to represent. He hacks, cyber stalks, cheats and steal like his bandwagon. Dutchmen made sure all the pennies disappeared. A penny on avg is worth 2.6 cts. 1999 issue 14 cts to 43.50.
Just do what i did, keep calling them, call them back, call them often, ask questions, many questions, ask for paper work. Keep calling the same person if you can. It goes both ways, they want to make money from the caller, but if you are only waisting their time, it just kills them. I finally paid the bill they were calling for, but it was paid directly to the credit card company, not them. I was so happy to take their calls, believe it or not, the guy argued with me endlessly, i had to pay $196 or else (as a minimum payment). Well, i really had my fun this time. I kept him going for 45 minutes, but, he was adamant, i owed this bill, and i was going to pay this bill. After i decided i had enough, i just hung up, why not, i have call display! He never did get his commision.
Here's a side note for ya. If a debt is not paid after 2 years, it is against the law for any company, including collection agencies to go after a person to pay their debt.
My ex husband owed a debt after we married on a joint account, this number kept calling me with automatic voicemessage, I called back and always got voice message never a real people picked up phone
I screamed in the phone. The guy will not accept anything I say including that the debt was released via bankruptcy 3 years ago. He keeps asking for personal information. The weird thing is that every time I phone the same guy answers. I find that very phishy! Not like any collection agency I've ever dealt with. I have complained to the company that hired them and if calls continue I will lodge a formal complaint as well as seek to recover any costs associated with the calls.
