they've called daily for about a year. ask for Javad Singapur or some such name. never lived here or had this number as far as i know. i'm listed in book - are they morons? can't they look up the number in book and see it's not same name as they're asking for? i've called -told them to stop calling -that they have the wrong number -that it's not me they want. doesn't help. they still call every day. sometimes a woman . sometimes a recording. sometimes a man's voice. it's always urgent. i'll have to make police report & change my number if this keeps up. fedup
Looks like it was a good thing this person called you regards to this - you got screwed by your ex-wife but just because it was several years ago does not mean you don't owe it.The 2 year rule people often refer to is for companies to sue deadbeats - any collection agency can still actively collect on debt regardless of how long its been outstanding.
thats true though... you can be sued if you don't pay... well like supposing your debt is like HUGE... but its possible... most of the time it just gets written off as an R9 in your credit bureau though which is just a bad mark on your credit rating... but yea its possible to get served into a provincial claims court if your debt is big enough
You guys call people but it goes to voicemail when they pick up and when they try to get a hold of you, it goes to voicemail again. What is the point of calling someone if you won't talk to them to tell them what the problem is. It's just harassment. Answer the damn phone when you call someone.
Yes they can try and collect the debt, but laws in Ontario STATE a 2 year limitation. After that, 3rd party collectors buy the debt for cents on the dollar and try and collect. Does the person still owe the debt? Morally yes, but legally no. With one stipulation..... If they agree to pay the debt. Then the statue of limitation resets. My ex wife owed a debt when we were married on a joint account. I never used the card biut she had no problem using it. This was 2005. I received a call from a collection agency this year stating I owed $6000. I asked what company and date? They said Canadian Tire Bank and finally told me after asking several times 2005. I told him that I never used the card and more to the point, the statue of limitations passed years ago. He started to scream "PAY YOUR DEBT!" several times and hung up. I stopped answering the phone after weeks of the same person calling. Then blocked the number. They started calling my mother because they did a reverse name lookup as there are just a few of us in the phone book. My mother told them several times that this was not my number and she didn't want to be called again. They kept calling so I set up a recording device on her phone and the next time they called, my mother told them this was not my phone and not call again. They continued to call even after being told to stop. So after several more calls, my mom called the police and filed a criminal harrasment complaint. Guess what??? Calls stopped to her. The legal system works if used properly. Don't lower yourselves to screaming like them. Use the law.And to those who owe, please try and pay. But after 2 years, if you haven't been sued, you're not obligated to pay. That only concerns Ontario.Regards
These people called the police on me :( Seriously, try to negotiate your debts by offering them livestock. I tried to low ball them with three chickens and a pumpkin, then called them 200 times a day for a month. Since they called the police, the calls have stopped, but I still want want to call them.IF YOU WANT THESE PEOPLE TO STOP CALLING, OFFER THEM THE MOST STUPID COMPROMISE, THEN CONTINUE CALLING TILL THEY ACCEPT, or call the police. Either way, you'll be fine.
In Ontario, they are only allowed to call 3 times a week. If they call more than 3 times a week it's considered harrasment. Again, use the law to your advantage.Regards
I would find a way to pay if I got that many calls. I would be scared the mafia is coming after me and somehow it was the mafia'a money. That's crazy, you can't be serious???
