The call from 916-631-7085 (States Recovery supposedly debt collector) is 100% BS, they are connected with 503-403-2694 (Fake Wells Fargo collection division.) PUT THESE NUMBERS ON CALL SCREEN OR BLOCK. This is common with land lines because your number is in the phone book or can be obtained through information. Cell phone #'s are classified as personal and cannot be obtained through information and it's illegal for them to call you through it. I've verified the Wells Fargo# to be fake with a local Wells Fargo Bank. These guys are just taking a shot in the dark at old numbers that where linked to names of people that had a credit or account that showed up in old credit reports. Wells Fargo is widely used in the West Coast and Midwest so it's easy to just call a random number and tell them they have a problem with "their Wells Fargo account" and get information from them or get them to pay a false debt. Some of these calls are asking for people that no longer use the telephone number or asking about old accounts that are already paid off and removed from credit reports. They WILL NOT stop calling you even if you ask them to remove your number. Seize letters will only work for a few months, they'll change numbers and company names and call you again. Remember that obtaining someone's credit report cost absolutely nothing and it can be done without your permission if the "company" states the reason being is for promotional inquiries, the residents in the west coast and midwest areas have the highest credit ratings in the US. The information in these reports contain your name, address, birth date and the last 4 of your SS#. However, they do not have your full SS#, if they ask for your full SS# tell them to shove it, if you gave it to them, you just became a victim. Legit debt agencies already have your full SS# because it was in your original account, name, birth date and credit or account# and they will only contact you by mail not phone and the debt will show up in your credit report with the contact information of the debt source. In the letter they will give you a contact number and reference number. When you call them, only than will they ask you to verify the reference# your name and last 4, they WILL NOT ask for a full SS#, they will state the account origin and amount owed. If you are unsure of a debt, always, check your credit report every year, it's free at annualcreditreport.com (once per year), make sure to get reports from all 3 companies equifax, transunion, and experian. They will show a list of everyone that has inquired and looked at your credit report through each company. My advice is to protect yourself and trust no one that ask for information over the phone or e-mail that you did not initiate. Like those out of the blue e-mails of european women coming and lotteries originating from Nigeria, you know what I'm talking about. Do not donate any money over the phone as this also an easy way for scammers to get a hold of your checking/credit information. Keep all of your private information locked up and away from new girlfriends, boyfriends, or someone you just divorced. This is my 2 cents hope it helps.
I kept starting to get calls from them and knew exactly what it was. Univ. of Phoenix uses them for collections. I had an unresolved issue with Univ. of Phoenix and instead of them returning my calls and dealing with it they decided to send it to collections (long story for another time!) Finally I answered while I was at work they called on my cell phone (I was alone at the time at work so I was able to talk). The guy then proceeded to use very agressive mob tactics with me over the phone after I continuously told him the entire story AND told him that I had FULL intention on paying I just am making very little money and would like to do a payment plan. HECK NO this was not on his agenda. He really got unusually agressive with me and I actually got scared. I've dealt in the past with Credit Collectors but this guy was NUTS! After time and time again trying to make arrangements that would meet what I could afford he continued to attack me, scream at me, and put me down as if I wasn't going to pay it.Frankly I got fed up and I told him off and screamed back. Suddenly he asked me "where do you work." I responded "a job and that is really not of concern to you and this discussion." He proceeded to tell me "Lady I can look it up right here I have everything." I FREAKED OUT! Though I'm not an idiot I know they have that information I felt threated and I can't afford to lose my job over this idiot. I told him who the H*LL he thought he was pulling mob tactics on me and threatening me. And I made it very clear that he is to NOT call my work for any reason that my cell is always next to me. I was screaming at this point. This job puts food on the table for for little children WTF!So I told him I would call back (basically I wanted to deal with a supervisor because this guy wasn't willing to relax and be realistic). Right after I hung up my work phone rings and I answer it, the person on the line said, "is this you Christine, this is "so and so" at States Recovery see I can call you at work... I can find you anywhere you can't run from me..." OKay does this guy have a case of watching to much of the Sopranos or something! I never screamed or got mad so much like I did at that moment. That is the first time I felt personally threated by someone I didn't know. It scared me that someone who is labeled "professional" would deal with people like this. I freaked out at him and told him to NEVER call me back. He proceeded to threaten me that he would keep calling my work. This is all after I told him DO NOT CALL MY WORK EVER.Basically I cooled myself down called them back, spoke to a really nice supervisor and after explaining the extire long story we came up with a plan that made us both happy. He was the craziest, meanest, most evil person I have EVER dealt with! What a shame there are people out there like this apparently trying to help us catch up with our debts. I do not want to hear all this "Pay your bills" bull cause the majority of us step up to the plate and pay! Many are making much less money and must prioritize their finances.
Getting a call for my old business name...automated call, of course. Asks me to write down a number and then call back. Definitely fraud--if they were actual collectors you would receive a written letter vs an automated call. My suggestion--HIT IGNORE. It is super annoying though, I agree!!
They call do not leave a message, when I called it back they were very unprofessional and would not even explain what type of business they were, they just wanted my phone number, which I refused to give them.
this phone number is very annoying have had them try multiple things, and now receive blank calls from them... which eventually just hang up on me.I'm tired of these companies making money like this.. I do not own anyone any money.. so no one has the right to use my number like this...I wish this company to burn to the ground and all the workers there to go to hell and all there families being fed off it starve from the idiocy of such a tactic. my final answer is, no I wouldn't care of this company disappeared unexplained.
They call me asking for some lady named "Maria Gonzales" and always leave voicemails, and its just n automatic voice. I'm not her, so I dont need tese calls.
**Update**Well, this is become so ridiculous that I am purposing a reality-based tv show on debt collectors! Received a call on June 24, 2011 wanting to know when I would be able to pay my bill off. They have called my lawyer and he told them to stop the harassment. Before they can get a check cleared from the bank, they call a week before one transaction is due to set up another! I have done some 'arm chair investigation' and see that the University of Phoenix uses this company as well. Hope that helps some of you out. My debt is from, what they're saying, something old from Wells Fargo.
I have asked them to quit calling my number repeatedly. They are looking for someone who does not live here. They would not tell me where they were from or let me speak to a supervisor.
