Yesterday we got the first call, and someone who obviously had no command of the English language, tried to say he was with the computer maintenance department. I asked 'what computer maintenance department?'. He didn't understand what I was asking, so I hung up. Today, we have gotten two more where no one is on the other end of the line, or at least they won't say anything. We will just ignore any calls from a 999 area code from now on. Good luck, everyone! Got a call from this company, they are hackers posing as Microsoft employees. They will try to get you to turn on your computer so they can cause problems and force you to pay them to fix it. After they infect your computer with a virus, they will ask that you purchase a green dot card to pay them. This is so there is no trace of the transaction. I contacted Microsoft and they are aware of this scam. Please BEWARE of this company.
Same as all post foreign callers, alledgedly works for Microsoft and on and on and on. Calls 10 to 12 times per day. After verbally abusing them the simply leave a message of "goodby" and hang up.
I guess they are up to the P's in the English alphabet. They started calling my home # several days ago starting in the early morning and continuing until late at night. I receive up to 5 or 6 calls everyday. It is so annoying that I am considering having my # disconnected.
Woman caller with an Indian accent --- Have been receiving repeated calls from this number for the past 4 days. I answered once and woman caller was on the other line with an Indian access. Same report as 'Elk' below - except she said Microsoft Certification Division - and told me a dangerous file was being downloaded to my computer. I kinda laughed and told her I'd believe her if she could tell me what kind of computer I had, or at least what my IP address was. She told me she had to confirm who I was before she gave me that information --- SHE CALLED ME - Duh! I hung up with her, but keep getting bothered with the ringing phone by this number for past 4 days. I'm now blocking the number!BTW -- Caller ID says "NAME NOT FOUND"
This guy could barely speak English (although sounded Nigerian) .... Said he was from Microsoft and I was having "HORRIBLE" computer problems... I asked him if he wanted my credit card and social security number and he was delighted.... Then I cussed his sorry A$$ out.
@ tishylu and everyone who gets hang-ups. It's called a predictive dialer. It's generally set up to dial 4- 6 numbers at a time per customer service rep (or what ever you want to call the people who work for telemarketing companies). A predictive dialer dials a list of telephone numbers and connects answered dials to people making calls, often referred to as agents. Predictive dialers use statistical algorithms to minimize the time that agents spend waiting between conversations, while minimizing the occurrence of someone answering when no agent is available. When dialing numbers one at a time, there are two sources of delay. First, only some fraction of dials are answered. So, for example, if 1 out of 3 dials are answered, a predictive dialer might dial 3 lines every time an agent becomes available. Second, even dials that are answered take some time before being picked up. If it typically takes 10 seconds for someone to pick up, and conversations typically last 90 seconds, a predictive dialer might start dialing at 80 seconds.Dialing one number at a time, only when an agent is available, typically keeps agents utilized for 40 minutes per hour. Predictive dialing can increase utilization to 57 minutes per hour.
