They've been trying to collect on an old account that Capitol One wrote off 8 years ago. My state's statute of limitations is 7 years. I got a letter stating that they can't take me to court and sue me. No Teeth. They offfer up a "deal"...say you owe $2,000.00, they'll take $400.00 to close it. Meanwhile, they paid around $20.00 to the old creditor for your old account data. If you pay them one dime you reset the clock on the delinquent account to zero, and it will show up on your credit report.If the account doesn't appear on your latest credit report, its gone as far as the law is concerned. Don't pay these scammers...they're scumbag bottom feeders operating in the gray region of the law.

I have answered once or twice in the past and once I knew who it was I just hang up. I don't answer calls i don't know the number to any more. If it is that important, they can leave a message which they don't. I block it first chance I get. It lasts about 2 weeks and they call from another number which I do the whole thing over again.

Debt collectors and I have no debt. Don't give them your private information.

Whatever. Calling my cell phone with no answer. Nothing else better to do with their time but cause charges to your cell phone minutes. Reporting this does nothing. Deal with it. If you answer the phone call, it confirms who you are. Then more Crap. Reporting this type of call to athorities, does nothing. If you are stupid enough to reply to a phone call like this, then you desirve more crap shoved down your throat like me. But, get the message. There are a lot of people out there to take advantage of you. That is what this is. If you don't recognize the number, put a block on it. Your phone company won't do this, use Mr. Number, an application for your phone to block constant SPAM even your mother in law.

Do they ever pay up?? someone needs to send them to collections :)

check your state for the statute of limitations. I had one company call me trying to collect on something from 1987. The statute varies by state, but generally it's around 7 years. Anything more than that, you are not liable and can tell these lowlifes to pound sand.

Unknown 205-453-1648 calls everyday. Can't deal with the pests. What can I do to get them to stop?

debt collectors, Portfilio Associates. They have literally hundreds of phone numbers from all over the country they will call you from. They are trying to collect on debts that have long ago been written off by whatever company once owned them. They buy them for pennies on the dollar; they are bottom feeders. They will call you night and day, never stop. I've disputed one with them for nearly ten years now. Never had the account, never even heard of the c/c company, yet these people refuse to accept that answer.

Report them to www.ftc.com and www.fcc.com, and block their numbers.

Paid this debt thru the court system but cannot get rid of these people. Sent proof showing where it was paid!!! Still cannot get rid of them thinking of taking to court for harassment!!
