See my posts. He got your details from a Trojan downloaded to your PC from a trap on the net! He had already looked into your PC. They have the technology to do it and are using it to create problems and spy on people!
Further info - It looks like they are using a Trojan Dropper, such as Zlob, to infect PCs with a new variant of the Virtumonde or Vundo trojans, or something worse. This enables them to look at your PC remotely, and to alter files. They remotely disabled my virus killer and wrecked Ad-Aware and Spybot completely. They rang me and when I refused to accept they were what they said they were abusive. The day after I had the argument with them on the phone my PC would not start at all and I had to repair Windows! I suspect they sabotaged it remotely! This is very worrying. Make sure you get the best anti virus/spyware you can! Is there anything that can be done about this evil scam?
They've landed in Brisbane now. Aussie number is 2801 47593. Yesterday had a call from an Indian gent named 'Chris' who claimed to be from Microsoft support and said we had reported computer running slowly. My husband took the call, and assumed I had made the report. I am very annoyed, as I wasn't thinking straight and was persuaded to sign up to supportonclick.com for 3 years. Was told that included in the deal was the latest Office package and Malwarebytes. Turns out that the Office package is Openoffice (not Microsoft) and is free anyway. Same with the Malwarebytes, which I don't even need, as I have trend micro. Who can we report these guys to? Any ideas?
An Oriental (I think) lady. Same stories as above. Except she asked for Mr. Smith. Smith is my mother's name from a second marriage. Mine is Jones. (Mr Smith died 10 years ago). Mine is the name registered with the ISP but the phone line is in mother's name (Smith). So - is it a trojan or merely cold-calling from a phone book? The number she gave me is 0280147593.
Sorry...I forgot to mention..the web site she referred me to is www.supportonclick.com/eu
So far no-one has said that the caller knew their email address. I reckon that they are pulling phone numbers off a list or a telephone book. Like, everyone has a computer and we all have problems with them...
Just got the same thing in Brooklyn NY. They knew my last name and that I was using XP, but that could just be phonebook/guessing. He claimed to be a microsoft technician. I asked for verification of who he was and he just kept repeating the same stuff, and gave me the number 1-212-796-0581 to call. He hung up as I kept pressing. I called from a different phone and they answered as Support On Click, but I called Microsoft and they didn't seem to know what that was.
They're not using any trojans or anything like that. They called to ask for my (long-dead) grandfather, and asked me to click on the Start button on my computer. I'm not even running Windows, so no Start button here. I went along for a little while, but got bored. Got real work to do.Don't worry. They're just pulling names/numbers off a list. They don't know anything about you.
I've just had a call from an Indian guy called David telling me I had downloaded unwanted files and had filed a report online. I was not aware of having done this and so had asked for further details. He then said to switch on my computer and go to www.supportonclick.com. I then asked for his phone number and said my husband would ring him back later then I came and did a search on the website name and found this.I hope it was a cold call and they have not got my details from a virus.
I had one of these calls within an hour of switching from dial up to broadband with ntl (about 3 months ago). As soon as I was loggled onto the net I got a warning message telling me I had 'registration' problems. My computer was all over the place, I was unable to read the scrambled words on the web pages. I went to the site that claimed it would fix the problem (I think it was 'registrycleanerxp.com). I couldn't follow the intructions so I gave up. Then came the phone calls. I managed to refuse the first, very persistant one, but capitulated on the second because ... of course, I did have problems with my computer. It took supportonclick 6 hours over 2 days to sort the problem but, very soon, my computer was runing slow. (Originally, they claimed/knew my computer was running slow. How did they know that?) Today they phoned again. I got them to fix the slowness problem ... just took half an hour but I noticed they deleted some uninstall files and disabled a number of Windows functions ... which has left me very concerned. I don't believe their contacting me was random. I suspect they got my details via ntl through my switching to broadband somehow. I believe they caused the original 'registration' problem message. I also believe that they have now 'fixed' my computer so that I am locked into their support. Yes, I paid them, after they did the first fix, about £28 for 6 months. Now that they've 'fixed' a second time they are pressuring me to pay them more money to 'upgrade' to 12 months support!!!! How am I going to cleanse my computer from their grasp? The only way I can think of is to wipe it and reinstall windows. Does anyone out there have an alternative suggestion please? I have a list of about 7 names that I've spoken with and their Mackworth phone number 01274900834 ... which I've just rung after reading the above messages ... it really IS supportonclick. When supportonclick read this message I would just like them to know that it is INTEGRITY that wins customers, combined with good service. Supportonclick ... you are capable of providing good service but you lack integtrity. All you are doing by puruing this method of getting customers is blackening your name and reputation .... it's not good. You are upsetting a lot of people and you will eventually pay a high price for what you are doing.
