I had the exact same thing happen today. Only difference was, he said he was from 'Windows technical support'. Same phone number, same East Indian jerk! I He cursed me when I asked to speak to his manager or at least give me a phone number that I could call back to verify who he was representing. Then he had the nerve to ask for my email address, so he could tell me how stupid I was for not downloading this 'protection'. I called Microsoft & they confirmed that they NEVER call people to tell them they have a computer virus. The scary thing is the web-site this scammer had me go to is a legit web-site. It's the same web-site Microsoft recommends to people who want additional virus protection. Somehow these scammers are using it as their front. They give you a code (just like Microsoft does), but their code redirects you away from the legit web-site. Once you download the 'protection' they have complete control over your computer! I'm glad I trusted my instinct & didn't follow thru w/ the download. I feel so stupid for having talked to him for as long as I did. I never thought I'd fall for a scam. It was just like they warn you about. Yell at you, curse you, calling you stupid for not trusting them. Intimidation is their tactic!
Indian accent saying he was from Microsoft Technical Dept calling to fix error. Said he was in NY. Wanted to use showmypc.com and fix error on desktop. While viewing this, he hung up. Afraid for my info and PC.
I got the same type of call this morning. Man with Indian accent telling me that my computer was getting a Microsoft Windows error message. Told him I haven't seen anything coming up on my machine. He told me it was on an HP computer - none of my home computers are HP. He kept saying there is a problem with your computer and I want to fix it. He then said something about Dell and Toshiba - I said why did you tell me it was on an HP - he said "No I didn't". I starting yelling that I don't know your credentials, and I don't like giving any information over the phone. I can't be sure that you are from Microsoft as you claim. Guess what happened next:.... He hung up!!! When something seems not right in your gut - TRUST IT!!!
Heavy Indian accent, he knew my last name, saying he was from Microsoft and that a virus was sending my IP address. He said that he could walk me through fixing the issue. I told him that I was not comfortable with this form of communication and that he could send me an email. He hung up as I began to ask another question.

Another call to us from these scammers. Why us, why all of us??I wonder if I could call them back and tell them not to bother I won't be scammed by them? I am guessing this is a US area code and not some distant country.
Well, I called it back and message states the # is not recognized. Darn. How do they do this stuff? If I had 1/2 the knowledge and skills these scammers do, It would go good use and maybe I would be rich!
I need to block this number they are saying I have a virus on my computer and this is not right. Please report this number to the policy so that they can not call
I just got a call from this number and honestly I've never felt more humiliated in my life. He asked if my mother was home and I told him that she was out, which was the actual truth. Then he paused and asked in Urdu, "How would you like it if I touched you?" At first, I thought I heard something else and replied "What?" and he then repeated, "Touch, touch, how would you like it if I did that?" I was so furious and yelled at him to go to hell before shutting the phone off. This guy is a pervert and a scam. Block your number from him.
