302-731-1166Number is legit. Bank Of America fraud prevention. Called a few hours after I made a few large purchases after some inactivity. I called THEM back at the number.Only asked me for the number they called me on, my name, address and email address. After giving this they verified the card type and last 4 digits of the card in question. If you get a call, call them back or call the number on the back of your Bank Of America credit card, there might be fraud on your card!
yes, same call but saw no fraudulent activity. no voicemail, no answer just long irritating music.
Please know it now that the number 302-731-1166 is a genuine number from the credit card report whatever. I have not used my card for a long time and I happen to use it today at the gas station and Fedex. I got a call from them as an alert and I called the Bank of America, who confirmed it was the credit card company and directed me to them to sort things out so that they don't put the card on hold. So know it kniow that even even you don't give them any answer, try to call your bank to verify the call as ignoring them may be a disaster on your credit card.
received 2 calls today from 302-731-1166 - says 'unknown name" - i did not answer phone and no message left
I received a call from that number today.....and I googled it and read these messages and called the number on the back of my card. It IS a valid BofA number from the fraud prevention. Someone, today, was using my number and I have not charged anything for several weeks. They are on top of this....and I am so very thankful. I have no idea how the crooks got my number, and BofA is investigating it now. It pays to check it out.
I got this call when I was in the midst of a fraud alert. The call was legit, and the alert was legit, even though I was the one trying to make an online purchase. This number is really the Bank of America credit card people. I, too, am paranoid and called the number on my card. Not to worry, though, it is legit.
*** PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE BEFORE YOU CALL BACK ****** DO NOT GIVE ANYONE CALLING YOUR INFORMATION ***This is absolutely a classic phishing scam. All the signs are there and I have received confirmation from Bank of America that it is indeed one. What to look for: the callers left a voicemail on my phone. The call contained most of the red flags you'd expect in a scam message:1. An "ALERT" noise which sounds a bit like the Fox news broadcast or CNN broadcast alerts to create urgency.2. A reference to a card ending in 4299. None of my cards end in that code, but I'm sure many people getting this message would not check first. 3. A prerecorded message which, if you listen to carefully, seems choppy as if someone spliced it together from an official call.4. A request to call back *immediately* to a number not published on the bank's website. You'd think the bank would publish the number for verification purposes.5. A warning of a hold if the call isn't returned further creating urgency. Instructions are then given to call 866-559-0025 and enter in a pin number (to make it seem legit).6. The message then stresses to disregard any messages from Bank of America online or any text alerts received on your mobile phone. Which makes sense since the last thing the scammers want is for you to actually call the bank.7. I call the number which identifies itself as "card services". Umm hmm. Many banks do outsource service functions as posters have stated above, but due to the nature of financial information, the outsource company usually operates separate lines and identifies the financial institution they represent on a particular inbound or outbound call.8. . The first thing I hear is instructions to enter in a billing zip code without so much as an identification. I enter in a bogus code in another state and sail onto the next step. That was the clincher.I promptly hang up and call the Bank of America number on my card. The representative I get runs a quick sweep of my account and indicates no fraud alert has been issued. It's a fairly well done fake, and I feel bad for the people who posted "it's legit!" on this post, because they likely gave a scammer their card info, pin and personal info. Hopefully this message will save you time, money and angst.
11/16/08 - I got a call from this number stating that there was a charge on my account that wasn't mine. After the automated voice service took me to a service rep, I confirmed that it wasn't my charge. The service rep just asked for my name; never asked for my SSN. They canceled the transaction and I wasn't billed. The (302) 731-1166 number is a legitimate BOA number.
