Caller claiming to be from the Census Bureau. Tried to verify address, which he couldn't pronounce properly. I refused further information, he asked if I'd gotten mail about the survey, I hadn't. He asked that I verify their identity with the phone company by calling an 800 number he gave me...I hung up. Sounds like a scam to me.Mainah

I believe this is a call for the American Community Survey from Census Bureau. The ACS is one of the most intrusive, despicable forms the Feds put out. It asks if you have plumbing. how many toilets you have. When you leave for work and when your house is empty. Names and ages of everyone that lives or may be staying with you. How much money do you earn. How much do you spend on alchohol and porn. Have you had suicidal thoughts. And on and on.Hopefully the Trump administration will get rid of this horrible intrusion into our homes!

I have received several calls from this number claiming to be from the census. They spoke very broken English and became rather nasty when I refused to answer their questions. When I questioned their credentials they hung up.

Tis is a real number for the Census Bureau. They are following up on the American Community Survey, which is sent to some US households in the years between the decennial census.

Ummm... that 866 number is from an ad here! Not about this number... regarding harassing calls from scam artists fraudulantly claiming to be the U.S. Census Bureau when they are not! THe ad is to stop NCO Financial (one of the worst illegal debt collectors around) from calling. But it won't stop any calls from all three of these reported numbers here! Sorry!

This is the US Census Bureau. Verified it. Stop by my place to conduct the first survey, then they continue over the phone for a period of a couple months. Nothing wrong here. Not a scam, just the government gathering information about employment status.

I love the way you handled this. They sent us one of their questionnaires a while back and we haven't responded to it and have not answered any of their calls. I am hoping that the calls will eventually stop.

Got a survey from these people a while back and since we didn't answer it (way too many personal questions) they have been calling almost on a daily basis. Something seems suspicious so we don't accept the calls when they ring.

Nice to know the US government is using our tax dollars to hire mindless zombies to harass us. If you answer any questions incorrectly on the survey, it IS a crime. Even if an accident. You are only "required by law" to tell them how many in the household (headcount) during census years (2000, 2010, 2020). This ACS is an abuse of power. Nobody has ever been fined that I have found. They are using fine threats as an intimidation tactic. You have the Constitutional right to "plead the 5th" to any and all questions they ask you. Title 13 blah blah blah does not trump the US Constitution and your RIGHTS as American Citizens. Stand up for your rights.
