People aren't saying AES is a scam (they are just incompenent jerks), they are saying that calls from this number are (or potentially are) a scam. And if they are or are not, try explaining why all the people here who HAVE NO STUDENT LOANS are getting calls? Huh smart guy?
Got a call this morning from an individual representing himself as someone from AES about my son's student loan of which I'm a co-signer. The individual started phishing for my personnal information to valid that I was who I was supposed to be. When I asked him how I was to be sure that he was from AES, he cut the conversation short and told me I could call the Customer Service Office at 1-800-233-0557. Called that number a couple of times but that turned out to be bogus. I started receiving calls from this 1-717-720-1500 number with no message several months ago and it stopped for a while after I filed a complaint on an FTC complain board, but now they are starting again. Looks like a scam to me.
I have had calls from this number as well as several other "collection" agencies. Know whats funny about these calls? I am not the person they are asking for! ... and when i do answer these calls they harass me some more by asking if I KNOW the person. I am sorry that some people are not paying student loans back, but the economy and job market sure is horrible at the present moment. I have been fortunate enough to be able to pay for my schooling without ever taking loans from these sort of companies and I am just SICK AND TIRED of getting phone calls from them!
Wow, considering the number of people here who HAVE NO loans that could be being serviced by AES, I think you are the one who looks a little stupid right now, not them. Those of us who do have loans, know what's going on with them. There have been several people who have mentioned that they are behind and know it and are working on getting caught up or a forbearance. But there are also many (like me) who ARE NOT BEHIND and are making regular, on time payments. The AES system says we are current, when calling back they say we are current. So please, don't try to shove your crap down our throats and make like we are the bad guys here. We're doing our part, AES is the one breaking the rules and calling people they shouldn't be calling.
they called and i didnt answer and if it is about a loan i have never taken out a loan
Do you speak English- fluently I mean? Please reread your post and in the future, please proofread. Your post makes no sense without appropriate punctuation.
Practices such as that, threats, phony calls to the police, etc. should be reported. They should not be allowed to talk to people like that. Also, they can not call the police on you for not making a payment, they can only take action through the courts. They are paid to do whatever they can to force you to make a payment. My first statement to them would be, please hold while I start my recording machine, (if you don't have one, make a sound like you are starting something). State very clearly that you will be recording this call for your protection and ask them what they are calling about. They will either be much nicer or just hang up.
I got a call on my cell Saturday from "unknown" and it was a recorded message telling me *they* had an important message for me and I was to call blah blah blah...just a bit ago, I get a call on my cell from the 717-720-1500 number and figured it was about my student loan that has finally come to "rest" with AES. Didn't pick it up, they left no message, but figured I would Google it and this list is what I found. Yes, I get behind this time of the year every year, but will be caught up again in a week. They can wait and I'll just keep not picking up the phone until then...
What about people whom have tried to consolidate their student loans (AES-American Education Services, Direct Loans, and Sallie Mae), but are having the lack of cooperation and/or assistance to a graduate who is trying to do the right thing? But what happens is the person who is trying to reach out (the employee and/or representative) to that particular former student, who may have been struggling so bad due (like many current and/or former students) to these awful economic conditions, but is given a guilt trip like "if you don't send money sir/ma'am or set up a payment arrangement, we will notify one of the 3 credit reporting agencies.....", what can that person do financially or physically resolve the situation? Because when a person is trying to get a job, but they get denied due to their credit, what do you do at that point? In the long it doesn't help either side. The former student doesn't get the opportunity to do the right thing by paying their student loans, and the institutions on the other side don't get any type of income coming in. The street has to work both ways.......The former student wants "peace of mind", and the institution wants to balance the books. Thanks
