The first time I got a call from this number, there was no one on the other end of the line. I hung up after I said "hello" a couple of times. They called back the next day and this time I did not say anything when I picked up the telephone receiver. The lady on the other side identified her company as Great Lakes Education Services and that a former co-worker had listed me as a reference and wanted to update her address and telephone number. I asked her "why?" and she stated that her company provided educational information to people. I told her that I did not have any information and she gave me the 1-800-236-4300 number to have my former co-worker call, and then to select "option 0." She also gave me the hours of her company: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Friday 8:00 am to 5:45 p.m.

if you have student loans, your student loans maybe managed by Great Lakes. They are calling in regards to your student loan. This legit, not bogus.

I got a call from them and they seem like a major SCAM. They call from a blocked number and the second you answer the phone they ask for your social security number and date of birth. When I asked them who they are, they said Great Lake Services for Educational Services. He said I cannot tell you more until you prove to me that you're a client. I told the guy, I don't need to prove anything to you and I am not giving you my personal information. I asked him what "educational services" was and he said I cannot disclose that information. REALLY? What kind of legit organization are you in you can't verify who you are and what you do. And you want me to give you my SS #. SERIOUSLY? the guy on the phone was extremely rude and obnoxious.

Great lakes services student loans. If you have a loan, you should speak with them. If they claim you have a loan, you should speak with them. It is called identity theft. Someone may have taken a loan out in your name

They keep calling my parents house and asking for my ssn or account number. i had recieved a payment book from them for 50 dollars a month with a reference number. i gave them the reference number and they said they cant find any info on the number and started asking me my name. i told them no and that i had heard they were a scam and they laughed. What perfessional person laughs on the phone. NO BODY.

Great Lakes is a bill collection agency . Apparently a friend of mine used me as a reference . Now I am getting calls for him at my home . That's okay I am not going to give them any info on him even though I have not seen him in a number of years . Joke is on Great Lakes .

Received a call on behalf of my brother, from a woman indicating that I was listed as a "personal reference" and that they were trying to confirm my brother's mailing address. After reading the other posts, I'm guessing this is a legitimate debt he owes related to student loans, but I'm not calling back to give them any of his information at all. (Do people actually do that?) I did, however, tell my brother they are trying to reach him.

YES THEY ARE LIGIT, THEY BOUGHT OUT A PORTION OF CFI ACCOUNTS (COLLEGE FOUNDATION, INC) AND TOOK OVER THEIR LOANS STARTING IN 2010. SO IF YOU HAD ANY STUDENT LOANS WITH CFI THEN YOU DO NEED TO CONTACT GREAT LAKES.

Trust me. Great Lakes is legit. They do send letters out to borrowers who are past due. However, sometimes they don't always have a good address for one reason or another. Like the guy before this moron posted, don't be afraid to answer the phone. Great Lakes is there to help. Once the account goes to collections (DCS), there is nothing Great Lakes can do. Take their help while it's available to you.

They must be calling a random. Doesn't seem "legit" to me. They call my cell every day. I did the 'work your way through" plan -- no student loans..
