Im not putting my information on here but it has to be a scam.. I mean come on. I have NO student loans and how sketchy for someone to ask for your social over an auto machine. People are dumb if they do.
This is a scam. If you give your social to tgem you are stupid. I have no student loans and no one can put me down for them as a refrence. So I suggest get this straightend out before I raise hell.. How can a real company seriously ask someone for their social security number for an account I dont have!!!
I have received calls from this number (800-236-4300) for the past couple of months. I was not at home, but found it in my call logs. Since I was not familiar with the number, I ignored it. Yesterday I actually was there to pick up, but there was no one on the other end. This AM I got another call. This time someone was there; he asked for an unfamiliar name. I told him he had the wrong number and to stop calling. Time will tell. It would seem that this company, legit or not, is taking a shotgun approach to its collections/business.I am 78 years old. When I went to college there was no federal student loan program; if you needed a loan, you went to your local bank and did your business there, face to face. If this is how the federal student loan program works, maybe we need to have some drastic changes.
I purchase a new Tracfone and was assigned a new number. Immediately began receiving many, many calls from this number. Googled the number and found out it is Great Lakes Higher Education Loan Corp. Called them, transferred a few times, explained I had been assigned a number with a new Tracfone. They asked my name, which I told them and that I no debts of any kind. They said I would immediately be removed from the call list. We'll see.
The way telephone numbers are recycled? Get real! If they call and you dont know who they are looking for, advise them and move on with your life!
I get calls from 800-236-4300 twice a day, EVERYDAY, on my cell phone! No one has this number but family and friends. I have NEVER had a student loan and anyone who posts on here that they are legit are in on the scam. DO NOT give ANYONE your information on the phone...EVER!
I currently have a loan with great lakes and got a call from them. I called them back at their (800) 236-4300 Account Services line and was able to take care of my student loan. I called them right back because I remember putting references when I first signed up for student loan in my freshman year. I don't want them to call my references. How embarrasing! I just put my loan on a forbearance and I'll be paying them back in a few months.
If they are calling more than 4 times a day, you may be able to file harassment charges against them under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) You might check out your options on that.
If Great Lakes is calling, dont respond. They are calling about a student loan. If you have no student loan and they claim you do, someone may have stolen your id. Anyway, once your wages are being garnished and tax refunds are being taken, they will stop calling.
Ok, when I was a sophmore I started getted school loans and they have you take this survey agreeing that you will pay the loan amount when you are done with school. On that survey, they ask for 3 references incase they can't get a hold of the borrower. So, I bet that is why they are calling you and you don't have a loan. Somebody put you as a reference and they didn't tell you. I let my people know I put them there but I told them like 6 years ago because that was when I got my first loan. I doubt they will remember. :)
