THESE GUYS ARE LEGIT. HERE IS HOW YOU FIND OUT IN YOUR OWN CASE. Simply call your original school loan lender and simply asked have they sold any part of your loan to the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. Your original lender will provide you with ALL the info about the sell of your loan to the US Dept. of Education. GREAT LAKES IS THE MANAGEMENT FRONT FOR THE US DEPT. OF EDUCATION. PLEASE CALL YOUR ORIGINAL LENDER TO FIND OUT THE FULL INFO. JUST DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.PEOPLE HAVE COMMENTED ON THE RUDENESS OF THE CALLS. They are government workers they dont have to be nice. Trust me if you have been in the military you know what I am talking about.Everyone this took place in response to the FREDDIE AND FANNIE CRISIS. THE US GOV PROBABLY OWNS YOUR LOAN FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE AND NOW GREAT LAKES IS MANAGING IT. ONCE AGAIN CALL YOUR ORIGINAL LENDER FOR INFO.
Got a call this afternoon couldn't make it to the phone on time. Saw this number and ID saysUnavailable. They did not leave a message on Answering Machine. Great Lakes is indeed a legitimatestudent loan provider., But isn't it STUPID of them to show UNAVAILABLE on the ID with a 1800 number? And since when is Great Lakes a "debt collector"? They maybe calling if you or relative have payments late, but that's not the same as a "Debt Collector" who buys debt from others for cheap and then chases after you.
This is Greatlakes, just a different phone # for them. Don't ignore the calls. Great Lakes will help you with you student lons, even if they are with other companies. I call this number whenever I need help. It's much better than talking to my school, or to the collection companies.
I got a call from Great Lakes. The man on the other end was polite, but wouldn't tell me what he wanted when I asked him what the call was about. I just hung up. I felt very leary talking to him.. I went with my gut feeling. I will wait to see if I get written corrspondance from them or another call, if I am that important to them. I found this website that had this number... it was been interesting to see who these people are. In this day of econminc unrest and uncertainity, it pays to be very careful. If they have my phone number, more likely they have my address.
They just called my cell and didn't leave a message. I do have a student loan with Great Lakes, but haven't started making payments yet (just graduated)
They are legit it's Great Lakes Education. If they are calling you, your student loan is overdue, right? They call to try and help you with them before they go to collections. You're stupid to ignore them - trust me. I have loan that went to DCS collections becuse I ignored Great Lakes, and DCS is hell. I work with Great Lakes all the time now on my other loans and they always help me, but they can't help me with the one at DCS now.
It is the correct number. They asked me for half of my information and gave me the other half. They also stated why they were trying to call me. I applied for the IBR and they were calling to request more information from me. They are legit. There number is also on the University of Wisconsin site as well as the federal financial site.Phone(s)(866) 348-0711 -- General(608) 246-1700 -- Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation(800) 824-8725 -- Online Application questions - Electronic Support(800) 236-4300 -- Account Services for Borrowers(866) 464-7855 -- Products and Services(800) 375-5288 -- Toll- Free FaxThey should learn to leave messages.
