They told me the same thing... I believed them, because I have a student loan that is overdue... I grew suspicious though after they asked for my E-mail address... Even more so when I did not get the E-mail they were going to send.I very clearly remember having to put my E-mail address on the application form in order to get the loan.I have never gotten an E-mail from them and I use no spam filter.Something about searching Google for a grade school class plan... and then comparing it to my College class plan made me say, "WTF! I just got a $25,000 loan to go to Grade School!"When, "What is a verb?" is a question on the Final Test... You're not in a College class, imo. Unfortunately, that was the 3rd English class for a Computer based degree that contained 0 Mathematics classes.
Yep. Students loans. They are part of Nelnet Student Loans They were actually very helpful to speak with.
I just received a call w/ no voice mail left from them today. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Great Lakes as the people above said as I do have a student loan with them. My student loan isn't past due as it's paid automatically every month from my checking, but I did just move recently so I'm guessing they wanted to get my new address as they probably just received returned mail.
They just called at 8:49 at night. I chewed the woman out from head to toe, and asked what was so important that they couldn't call at a decent business hour. They did call for my mom, and she doesn't have any student loans. That I would not go wake up my mother (and incidently step-dad too) because one gets up at 3:00 and the other 5:00 AM to go to work. I told her to call at a decent hour if they wanted to handle business, and she asked me to ask her if i could go ask her to take the call, or see if it would be ok for me to take a message for her. IDK what that woman is smoking but she better not call back this late at night. i didn't cuss at her, bc I dont feel the need to use such words to express my anger.
Number calling claims to be Great Lakes Bank. They want your ssn at 1st so you can tell its a scam. Beware! !!
I got a call from this 608-240-1310 (from WI) and left me a message for calling them back at this number 1800-236-4300. I don't recogize the phone number and the voice message was lousy and too ambigous.
They are legit. I didn't receive any calls from them (as far as I know; I don't usually answer my house line, just my cell), but I came across this while googling the phone number. If you signed up for student loans through Discover Student Loans, if you sign into your account, they are affiliated with Great Lakes. I get letters from them all the time, but I didn't think they were associated with Discover (or even legit) because I was also getting mail directly from Discover Student Loans. However, I signed into my DSL account just now and it says:This information reflects the most recent (up to 12 months) transactions posted to your account. You may see transactions that lower your balance (Payments, Refunds, etc.) as well as transactions that increase your balance (New Loans or Capitalized Interest). Please contact a Great Lakes Borrower Services representative at 1-800-236-4300 if you need your entire payment history. Click here to return to the Summary page.No one else has mentioned Discover here (what I've looked through anyway). I'm guessing they could be used by other companies. I know for sure that Discover is one of them, though.Anyway, seeing this in my account made me feel better about it, but just to be on the safe side, before using the site that was in the letters I got in the mail (mygreatlakes.org), I'll be contacting Discover directly to double-check.
It is Great Lakes.. My wife has a student loan with them. I'm sure they sometimes call the wrong number. My experience over the years is that some of their phone reps are great others are very unprofessional, just like just about anybody else. Yeah, i wish my wife did have a job that required a degree so she could be current on her loans :(
It's legit. They asked for my address. Dealt with them for years. The number popped up unavailable, but they gave me that contact number. I called Great Lakes with the number posted on their website and asked the first person I talked to if that number was theirs. They confirmed it was and that it is their borrower repayment services department. Breathe easy people.
