It's not scam, a friend of mine was arrested and the only way for her to call me is collect but i only have a cell phone. Can't call collect on a cell phone. The company's name is Tollfreeforwarding.com and their customer service number is 888-452-1505, if you want to talk to a real person.BTW, they offer a 30 day free trial and you can cancel at any time.

You also have to be patient because they only have a few minutes to make the call, and they never know WHEN they can make it. Other people are waiting in line. And It's always up to the deputy on the floor, when they can get out of a cell to make the calls. And sometimes you set up an account online, and it doesn't go through immediately, and you wonder, why isn't it available? But it becomes available eventually...the system is not easy, and you DO feel like it's inefficient and nuts.

I got a collect call at 8:40 A.M. ON 08-21-13 concerning someone in a correctional facility, did not accept. I do not want any more calls from this number.

If it is legit and trying to call my cell, then why did the recorded message call my house phone? No, thanks. If one of my friends really did land their stupid self in jail, they can call the old fashioned way - collect where the LIVE operator tells you the name of the caller. I know the procedure, as my next friend's son has been locked up many times for drug-related charges. His last call to Jer was March of this year, so I don't figure things have changed much since then. I call bs -scam or someone who doesn't know how to dial a phone. But I am leaning toward scam.

what if you had already set up an account is this the number that comes up when the incarcerated calls you

Yesterday, I got a call from this number on my cell. The day before, I got at least 16 calls from a different number (713) 568-6986. Did a search and found out that both numbers are from Global Tel Link or inmates making calls. I don't answer unknown calls from my cell, especially out-of-area calls. They did leave one incomplete voicemail message and it was an automated prerecorded message asking me to call an 800 number, and the message cuts off from there. I do have a cousin in prison, but I don't even talk to that person. Maybe it was an inmate dialing the wrong number. Either way, I don't want them bothering me. The numbers are now on my call blocking app and call block voicemail service.

Its a prepaid calling company inmates use to contact certain numbers (ie boyfriend mother father ect..) normally not used to call people who dont previously know they've gone to jail... laurel is correct, the inmate would have to have the number memorized or wrote down to call once they've been moved from holding to population.. if uve previously set up an account and did not use the full amount, the remainder of money in the account is kept after 90 days in which case you would need to set up a new account. deposits in increments of 25$ by visa or martercard check cards accepted.. they charge 5$ per connection and something like 27c a min for a max of 15 min... its excessively expensive and stupid... they should all burn in hell for charging that much...

If you answer the phone one time when the call comes in the recording explains where the call is coming from (which facility) and it will also say the name of the person calling you, and then it will ask you to press 5 to accept the call (it will usually say this is a prepaid call you will not be charged) or to refuse this call hang up. But that way you get the name of the person making the call...there is also an option I think #7 to push which will block all calls of this type in the future, then the calls stop. The only way I can figure for someone to try to scam someone through this system is if someone on the outside is finding numbers for them to call since they don't have access to Craigs List. I have received 3 calls from this number, all exactly 12 hours apart. I did not answer, and now that I have checked here am glad I didn't. It may be a legitimate system but if it is, there is definitely some abuse/fraud going on. My brother WAS in jail a few nights ago, but I bailed him out and he is now out awaiting his court date. These calls started the morning after I bailed him out, which is the morning after he dialed my number from the jail and I had to give my number to the jail for contact info as the person paying his bail. That must be how they got my number.Even if this IS how people set up calling cards for current inmates, something has been hijacked and is being used to trick people out of money. If a friend or family member is in jail and you get this call and are skeptical, I suggest calling/going to the jail and asking for assistance getting a phone card set up. If you don't know if you have a loved one in jail, that should be a red flag because inmates are allowed collect calls when they're arrested, which will tell you that an inmate from Such-and-Such County Jail is trying to contact you. Many jails also have an online inmate lookup tool you can use to confirm.
