I have received a call from this number a few times. I decided to pick up the call and listen. The recorded voice was a lady, gave me the option to for Spanish. Basically, she said that someone tried to calling me collect, but my number was not set up to receive collect calls. To enable this so I can receive collect calls, I needed to call or go to a website (sorry, I didn't write it down and I forget the URL) so I could give them a credit card number so I could receive "these" collect calls.
Do NOT answer your phone! This is an automated message trying to get you to add money to a "prisoner's" phone card.
this number called me at work. it is very annoying that someone can get access to my number and keeo calling me. Its not jail i know two friends in jail and they both get visited by me and i get calls rom them and NOT FROM THIS NUMBER! it is a major scam!!!
arizona.my daughters husband is in yuma prison.trys to call collect, but all collect calls are blocked on my phone
Just to clarify, the company Global Tel-Link is legitimate. It's a way for friends or family to accept collect calls from jail inmates since many (if not all) home phone companies do not allow such calls to be accepted in the normal manner. I actually had to use this service recently, so I'm speaking from first-hand experience. It's not cheap! However, it's definitely possible the calls you may receive from random inmates across the U.S. are some sort of scam, so be careful and listen to the message carefully before proceeding. Check with your friends or family before accepting any such collect calls. If someone close to you has been arrested and requires your help, you can always call the jail directly and find out all the info you may need to assist them. It's up to you to decide if it's worth the $25 to speak to your incarcerated loved one.
no.those are numbers the correctional facilities use.you have to set up an account.when they make a collect call, random numbers are chosen and used.i believe the web address is free inmate calls.com
The scammers at 1-800-483-8314 showing up as unavailable- just called my house and left a message about an "offender" and setting up an account...blah blah blah.I don't answer 1-800 and especially ones that say "unavailable." A for the ones on here saying it's legit- that is pure B.S! They obviously work as telemarketers for those scammers. One person on here wrote how they are charged $5.00 just for initiating an incoming collect call, plus an exorbitant cost per minute!! Also some scammers on here who try to justify as to why these telemarketing scammers are calling and why you need to set up an "account" enabling inmates to call you collect- since that is the only way to reach you....that also is pure B.S! Inmates do not need to have the person they are calling collect to- set up an account. Inmates just pick up a payphone and call collect, the person they are calling is informed of who the inmate is and what prison they are located and calling from. You also get the option to hear how much that collect call costs per minute, options to block that person, etc....The only way, and legit way to receive a collect call from an inmate is when they call you direct from where they are incarcerated.Prisons use a particular legitimate phone company that handles multiple in-state prisons. Different states use different phone companies, but all of them are a fraction of the cost of what 1-800-483-8314 charges! Plus, you are NEVER asked to provide any information- the charges are applied to your phone bill, as it should be.Does anyone pay for their phone services through an unknown business, and use their credit card??!! Hell no! Total scammers preying on clueless not so bright people, who fall for telemarketing predators all the time. People will never learn- and the ones who are aware of all kinds of scams, are the ones that suffer having to put up with these intrusive scamming calls!
