This number is NOT legitimate. DO NOT call them back or provide any personal information. They are a scam (why else would they ask for your social security number?)
I just dealt with this very same issue, here is clarification:The call IS from Macy's because your account is likely showing that it is past due. If like me, you made your payment online so you're sure that your account is not past due, you're very upset! The issue is that your Macy's card is a Visa card, so it essentially maintains two account - an in store Macy's account, and a separate Visa account (which you can use anywhere). I made my payment online through the Macy's website to what I thought was my Macy's card. It was applied to the Visa account which had a $0 balance, so I then had a credit of the payment on the Visa account and a past due on the Macy's account. The site is misleading and never clarifies which account you are paying. I apparently was paying the Visa account but the Macy's logo was showing in the top left (this is on the eBilling and Payment powered by CheckFree website). The best thing to do is call Macy's and tell them your payment was applied to the wrong account and ask if they can transfer it. They must have tons of issues with this because even when you sign up with Macy's to have an online account (to make ordering easier) and you link your card to it, if you try to pay online, and you choose the first option, it doesn't show the difference between the two accounts (Note: Notice that the number on your card is different from the Account number on your bill). If you use the QuickPay option, it will give you a pull-down to choose between the Macy's Visa account and the Macy's Store account. It's a very stupid way to handle these accounts, but I hope this helps someone out and that we can get these nonsense calls to stop.I recommended to the customer service person that they clarify on their site in a more obvious way which account you are paying. It would save them time and money to make this simple change!
I received a phone call from 800-511-3207 and they wanted me to callthem regarding personal information. I looked the number up on Yahooand found out it is a scam, I think, but for sure not Macy's.

I too got the call from this number several times in the last few days. similar story as other posts. Bottomline - this is a scam. Be careful not to disclose your personal info!
I have been reviving calls almost everyday from this number and I decided to get the call the automated messages said that I have to call this number. When i call, they want to get my Macy's account number and I don't have one and they where asking for someone that I don't even know.
I inadvertantly missed a payment. Called the # provided along with "this is Macy's and not a solicitation VM. Called... busy. Called... A guy answered: Creative something. I said, "Is this Macy's? He claims yes and asks for my account #. I say... I don't think so and told him I would refer to my account on the web. No red flags on the web. Called the Macy's customer service # provided on line. After some searching, she tells me that it is Macy's India and pathces me through. Connection so bad that I hung up and called again. Told them that it was a riduculous way to do business and cut up my card while I was on the phone. I miss Marshall Field's and will no onger shop at Macy's...
This is Macy's but the phone calls are from an outsource in India (which angers me because why aren't these types of jobs here in the US?). They ask for your personal information. They record your phone call. I get really annoyed that somebody unknown in Banglagore India has access to my personal data. Did Macy's or any other company get our permission to let third parties have access to our personal data? Anyway, the issue is usually your payment is past due. Mine wasn't technically because I mailed it two days before the due data, but these days, I guess it either gets there beforehand or they classify you as "delinquent". I took umbrage at the person at the other end using my first name. I cancelled my Macy's account on the spot. Macy's has sunk into trashdom anyway so I won't miss it. Maybe that's what's needed. Everybody cancel their Macy's accounts and when Macy's asks why, say "it's the outsourcing, stupid!".
