bless your heart - i blocked it but even with that, it would still ring once (enuf to annoy me)
I did not know this.............I just followed advise of another email and called american express and she was tlling me that I had opted out of telemarketing calls so she ws not sure why i was getting them.......if you see this message, can you tell me what happened when your phone company investigated?? This must be becoming easy to do........I had another number calling me constantly and I called it back and got a voice mal for a "gun shop" - The owner returned my call and apologized profusely and said he was receiving a ton of complaint calls but assured me it was not him calling and he was also having Verizon investigate.........and I am still getting the calls..........
Just logon to your account online, go to your communication preferences, and turn off every single stupid option they have (minus fraud alerts, I guess)You'll be shocked to see how many different ways to receive marketing messages you are enrolled in by default.
Thank you, Mr. Spock. I went to my account and did as you instructed. I'm looking forward to not receiving these annoying calls anymore! As Shermamoma said, this number does belong to American Express customer service.
This number rings twice a week at my unlisted phone. So far, they have called 5 times in 8 days, with never a message left. The calls ramge from 10 AM to 7 PM in the evening. If I feel like it, I pick up the phone and put it back down, which breaks the connection, but it is annoying-I see that others here ARE on the Do Not Call Registry, so how is this slipping through?
Thank you Mr. Spock!! I just turned off all that stuff. It IS amazing how many ways they have on there that they just assumed you wanted to say yes to!I hope to never see that number again.Live long and prosper!
I'lve spoken directly with Amex counsel in Florida who works for Laura Kelly, SVP, Global Product & Marketing at American Express. They claim it is NOT them, however, they agree that this is indeed one of their numbers at customer service. Some how, some where, someone is having this number come up in caller ID when in fact it's NOT the number that's calling and is NOT Amex. I have reported such to the FCC, but you know that's not going to help much.I personally get 1 to 3 calls per day at my office, we have simply blocked the call from coming through at all. Best part we've arranged for the calling party to actually hear the "this phone has been disconnected" and they still keep calling. It's a bot making the calls.Good luck, but that's what's going on.
Don't have caller I.D. so asked for a number to call them back and was given 1-800-5280-4800 (btw I clicked"0" vs. the requested "5" and got the sales pitch anyway). They knew my name but didn't know what brand credit card I use. I suspect it is a marketing ploy to sign up American Express cards and transfer balances to them. Regardless, my number is on Do Not Call so it is illegal as I have no account with AMEX and have not contacted them previously. If it continues, I plan to file a formal complaint against AMEX and help them get a fine of up to $16,000 per incident for violating the DNC regulations (Call the registry’s toll-free number 1-888-382-1222 (TTY: 1-866-290-4236). Just like SPAM, which should be forwarded to "SPAM@UCE.GOV", if you don't takes some pro-active move against these scofflaws, no fines will be imposed or remedies will be administered!
I've been getting these calls at least twice a day (or night till about 830PM EDST) for the last month and a half. I screen for this number and never answer. Me thinks this is initiated by a robo-call setup. With no effort on their part to start a dialog, I suspect its some sort of effort to document when this call(s) is answered. Maybe this is a survey to better understand when people are most likely to be home and THAT would be the best time for real tele-marketers to try contacting you... me.... EVERYBODY !!! We're all doomed !!!
