Had this number with "American Exp" caller ID call over the past month at least 8 times. Called them back Mar 16th, a sketchy guy says "whats your card number". I told them I would not give this out, he then said "what is your full social security number"? I refused again told him I was going to call the AmEx number on the back of my card. He said " Its regarding fraud". I hung up and called the real American Express who said they do no have any departments or facilities using that number (800-528-4800) The American Express rep said they would investigate the fraudulent number.
This number called today (calls all the times, several times a week, at least a couple times a day), I decided to answer just to see what would happen. They asked for my son, mispronouncing his name (a common name the world around), and that it was about his American Express, and I just said, wrong number and hung up. If they call again I will engage them more to see what they are really after.Honestly, if they are the "real" American Express, wouldn't the caller ID say so, rather than "TOLL FREE CALL"?? It's almost like they haven't heard of caller ID. We, too, refuse to answer toll free calls from 800 or 866, unless (rarely) identified as some retailer or something we were expecting a call from. Even then, it pays to keep your guard up these days. Now if I could get my MD's assistants to call me on the office/clinic phone, rather than their personal phones, I'd know it was ABOUT MY HEALTH and not ignore!
If you visit the AMEX website >contact us> customer service, (800) 528-4800 is listed there. So, this is not some random scammer; just AMEX looking to suck the life out of you. I called the number to find out why they're calling me and they couldn't give me a reason. I asked to 'Opt-Out' of the calls and the rep whom I spoke with told me I needed to have the primary card holder call. I'm an authorized agent of the card. Why can't I make a decision like remove my number if you don't know why your end is calling my phone number? I'm the one on this end being harrassed. So, if they have the wrong number listed in their system, would I need to go and find the primary card holder for that account? AMEX, go scratch!!
Yes we get calls from this number all day long. This is probably a spam Amex doesn't know anything about this. It is not from them. I too am on the do not call list, but this number keeps calling. they need to STOP CALLING.
these people call everyday! several times a day. i will not answer it. i wish they would go away. i do not know what they want. they leave no message.if this is not amex................they should go after these people.
This number is AMEX if you call it you get your account information last payment etc. seems to be an automated number.
I just called them and told them off. I demanded I be opted out of everything. It is AMEX. Call them and demand that you be opted out of EVERYTHING. That increase in junk mail may be from Amex partners too.
RED ALERT! RED ALERT! Hold back the phasers Captain. Sulu belay that last command from the Captain. Too much Romulan Ale, Sir.It is illogical to receive unwanted calls. My human friends, there is no need to panic. Trek over to the internet and follow these simple instructions. Just opt out of phone communication from American Express. It is easy and emotionless. 1. Go to your American Express account online.2. Log into your account3. Go to customer services tab on the web site.4. Scroll down to Alert and Communication Settings5. Look for Privacy tab on the left6. Look for "ways to contact you" and look for "TELEPHONE"7. Simply choose "NO"8. SAVEIt is that easy. It's so easy even a Klingons and Ferengi can do it with little trouble. But beware of the Ferengi stealing your passwords online. Worse than those Nigerians promising to wire you $1,000,000 into your bank account. I hope this helps you.Live Long and Prospers (LLAP)
