This is indeed the main number for Social Security. I filed Wed. last week & received the call @ 12:40 pm yesterday while I was away. A person with a strong Indian/Pakistani(?) accent left his name with the Soc.Sec.Adm. & a message (said he needed to verify earnings record to process the application) to call @ different 855-807-8675 (w/a 4 digit ext. number) that is a “Workload Support Unit” for the Soc.Sec.Adm. in Washington state. By the time I called back they were closed, but he called bk. today. I called him bk. as I did not get to the phone in time, dialed his ext., spoke to him immediately & I gave him my name & said “you just called.” He said “Yes, just give me a second to pull it up on the computer.” Then he asked if the beginning date for earning was 19– and the last yr. reported as 2016 correct?” And that was it.
I received a call from an unknown number, a woman stating she was from social security and that I was eligible for a benefits increase. I’m not retired, and I don’t receive SS. She knew my & my husband’s names. I asked for a supervisor (heard mumbling and the phone moving around) and a man comes on, saying he is the main supervisor at the social security office in Washington DC (suuuuure, dude). He then asks my age (suggesting I’m in my 20s) and says he wants to take me from my husband and f*ck me. I’m taking an educated guess that this is a scam.
I should add that I did ask for their number (prior to the explicit comment) and he gave me 1-800-772-1213.
Thank you very much for this message..I thought as much...I applied for SS and was approved same day and they do everything through the web and mail unless you need to speak to them. But I got a call from this number two days ago and didn't answer, it's not them, but pretending to be.Blocking them now...Thanks again. ..Bill
Well, posting on a phone number look-up site won't do you any good. You might want to call the office where you applied.
Caller said I was going to be arrested due to not responding to the warrant issued. Asked him to explain himself and he said he needed my SS# to continue. Yeah, right! Something needs to be done about this!
Email from David Malenfant stating he was with social security administration and this was regarding me recently filing for Medicare. Don't know how he knew that I did! Email states that he just called and someone hung up (my husband, suspecting it was a spam call). He wanted a time and number to call. There was even a link to SS page. Very convincing!
