I've gotten 3 calls from this number. They do not leave a message. They sent a text asking me to call this number, but I don't have an American Express card and, if it was legitimate they would leave a message. I have had accounts with issues before, and the company left a message for me to return their call. As others have said, scammers can make it look like they are calling from a different number than they actually are. Not a legit call.
called me asking for some unknown person that i dont even know. called back of card, told was not affiliated them an not to call that number
Received multiple calls from 1-800-824-9289 - Claiming they were American Express, but when I called AM EX and gave them the number I found it to be fraud.Be aware
6-25-2013This is a legit number to call back for verifying American Express charges. Because I was uncomfortable to call back, I called the AX toll free number on back of Credit card and 1) it's he same automatic voice as the message left by the following number: 800-824-9289. 2) When I called, it was referring to the same charges that was left on my voice mail. Folks, anytime you are worry it's a fraudulent call, call the direct source to get to the bottom of it instead of completely avoid it. Bottom line, it's a legitimate number to call back to verify charges for American Express acct.
Called Lifelock since we don't have AmEx account & message left from above # said wondering about possible fraudulent charges made to our account- Lifelock gave us another # for AmEx and it turns out above # IS AmEx. They said they would take our phone # off their records since we don't have an account.
This number 1-800-824-9289 is American-express Fraud Protection Alert, I got a E mail today from them, At first I thought it was a fake E mail but its NOT fake, Just found out people were trying to use our card number in 3 Purchase, Good Job by American-express Fraud Protection Alert, Their sending me a new card.
This number really does belong to AmEx and it is used to alert you to suspected credit card fraud or to ask if you really did make a particular purchase.I suppose someone could spoof the phone number, but I think it's best not to block it and at least answer to see what they want.
real fraud alert call from american express. you should respond if you have an amex card.
I also just got a call from this number on my home phone that is not associated in any way with my AMEX card. It was automated and asking me to input my AMEX CC number. No credit card company or bank EVER asks you to enter your card number! I called AMEX immediately and let them know about this, and as I suspected, AMEX had not called me, nor did I have any suspected fraud activity on my account! I gave them the number that called me and they are turning it over to their fraud security department!
