Just received two call from this scammer to my secondary cell phone number (used for testing, never given out.) Although the caller ID is the legitimate AMEX security callback number, I can guarantee you it was not AMEX making the outbound call. I don't even have an AMEX card! Even if I did, I never would have given them my testing cell phone number. Beware - voip dialers can push any caller ID they want to have shown.

Multiple vmails. Scam?

Wow, hard to believe this scam goes back years...I also got phished(?) and got my card # stolen...received lots of calls to call the 800-824-9289# but verified with amex that this is not a amex#, yet there seems to be all kinds of replys that think it's a good number for amex fraud unit...go figure and beware! Just make sure to only call the # in back of your card.

It's their real number. It calls this number from their app. Also I called the number on back of my card and I did have a fraud charge.

Asked upfront for my card number and them social security number. Had no record on file for the number they called and couldnt look it up either. Even collection agencies can look up a number to see who they need to talk to. I work as a telephone operator. This is a SCAM SCAM SCAM!

I received this call and a text at the same time asking if one charge was legit. I don't answer numbers I don't know and checked on here.

I too was a little worried. It asked me to enter my card number and I did not. Then it asked me to enter last 5. The recording had my name and my other card holders name. After entering the 5, it told me about possible fraudulent charges. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card and they confirmed it was them calling.

It's American Express Fraud Alert service. They left a message asking to call back. I did and they wanted to verify a recent change in our account.

Got texts alleging charges to itunes from American Express. Called American Express number ONLY on back of the actual card. No one tried to use my card. This is a total fraud where you respond to the text or dial their number where it will be directed to the scammer's number. Scammers then pretend they are Security and try to get your social security number and other personal data to open accounts. I believe that the responses that this is a legit Am Ex number are either the Scammers or just really stupid. Ignore these contacts they are professional scammers that do this for a living!

I thought the number could be scammers, but I called AmEx w/ the number on my card, transferred to account security, and they verified that it is one of their numbers. No fraud activity on my account though?
