I got a call from this number, picked up, didn't say anything, and the dialer hung up after a few moments of silence. I do not have an Amex card. So I suspect either a scammer is spoofing this number, or American Express dialed in error.

Yeah, it was indeed Amex. I just called the number on the back of my card, and they checked. It was then just alerting me that I had made a charge without being physically present. I appreciate that.

I don't know if it's fraud or not but do not believe it to be. I called the number on the back of my card and they were in fact trying to confirm a purchase I made.

Our company received notice via text and email that there was an attempted $1.00 charge from "Square" the text said to call 800-824-9289. we instead called the number on the back of our card and AMEX DID in fact have our card flagged for Fraud. They are sending us a new card overnight with a new number. So this is a legit number if you are uncomfortable calling it back call the number on the back of your AMEX card or phone number from your statement.

I called the phone # back and the first thing they asked for was my account number. I hung up and called AMEX. Their fraud department said this was NOT one of their numbers.

The messages in here made me paranoid. This is a legit number. I already verified via calling back the AMEX number in the back of my card, chatting with them online. It is a legit number. There was a fraud activity on my account so they directly contacted with me. I also got an email, online account message to call this number so it is a legit number. You can call AMEX and validate it.

Must be a fraud, I do not now nor have I ever had an American Express card.. so why are they contacting me

Received text message to call this number about fraudulent charge. Called number on back of card. Text was legitimate. Card number had been stolen.

Legitimate caller. This is American Express Fraud Service Alert. I was at a gas station & using my card & for some reason my card did not take. I get automatic email & text alerts when there is a problem using my AMEX card or if I use my card & a purchase seems suspicious (when I am out of town, or I use my card in the middle of the night at a place I never used my card before etc or the purchase is for a very large amount, etc)

I called that number but did NOT enter my 15 digit card number. I got AMEX so they forwarded the call to AMEX. AMEX told me never to call any number except their number on the back of their card.
