Yeah I was skeptical at first so I googled it. They knew information about my charges left me a voicemail to confirm those charges werent fraud.

This is a legitimate number. It's AMEX Fraud department.

This number was left on my machine. Called and gave info. Still dont trust it. Cancelled my card becuase Amex had no record of calling me,

left message asking to call from Amex Security - was automated call, not live person - they did not specify whether my card or husband's - will be calling Amex today but not this number.

FRAUD WARNINGCaller pretends to be American Express Fraud Alert (and voicemail even sounds like Amex). Caller ID is 800-528-4800 but asks you to call 800-824-9289. Don't call and DONT PROVIDE CREDIT CARD INFO!

I received the automated call at my business number and like the other posters chose to call the number on my card rather than this number. The customer service person I talked to saw no reason for me to get that call, so I told her I was going to ignore it.If it's fraud, the timing was good because I just got back from an out of town trip. However, if it's legit, AMEX needs to coordinate their departments better.

I called Amex at the number on the back of my card and asked them if that was a legit number and they said Yes, it is an Amex number.

I don't have an AMEX card and they called me, so it must be a scam.

I talked to the people at this number until they asked for my password. I'll never give that out over the phone so hung up and called the # on the back of the card (which I will always do from now on). They asked for the password, too, which I refused to do. Instead, when asked for the 4 digit code on the card, I gave it to them. And she implied that the other # was a real AMEX fraud number but it sure did seem fishy. I think it's best to be sure by always calling the numbers on the card. And don't give out your password. No one else should have it but you. There are so many other ways they can verify the account.

I got an email from AE this a.m. with this number. I didn't see the related charge they had listed until after I called the number on my card (different). I thought it was a phising scam. But they were looking for a questioned charge. I OK'd it and asked why they didn't use the number on the card. He said that the number on the card is a general customer service number and the one listed in the email is specifically for fraud.
