Interesting....I am a Cingular customer and I am late paying my bill. I did not answer the call, so I don't know about the whole scam idea.
Sometime in July started getting these calles from 1-800 947-5096 number with "important message about your new AT&T wireless service. Please call our number 1-800 947-5096 etc." I ignored it first. Then it would go into my voice mail. Eventually I called them waiting for ~20 min, talked to a live person. The lady asked me if I'm late on my payments. I said that I got rid of AT&T many years ago by paying $175 and switched to T-Mobile. Then I asked them not to call anymore or else. Called stopped for several weeks. Today I've received yet another call with the "Important message..." I don't know how to stop them. I did not find a single e-mail address for complaint. Maybe I should resort to an old fasioned certified mail.
Got 2 calls over the last few days...prerecorded message that starts before my voicemail picks it up. First callback ended up being a fax-screech noise, so I'm ignoring it. IF it's AT&T, they're off...I have Sprint.
Yes, I can confirm this is AT&T/Cingular account receivables' phone number. For the vast majority of people it is just a 'gentle' reminder to pay their bill.
These [***] keep calling telling me to call them back about my wireless account. I don't have and never have had a wireless account with ANYBODY.I called the number and I need to give them my wireless acount # for them to help me. (don't have a wireless account, remember.)I'm so sick of them calling every day.I hope they die a firey death and go to hell.
My policy is that if a computer calls me and asks me to call someone's 800 number, I ignore it. I refuse to waste my time waiting on hold while they add to their profits by understaffing their call centers. My policy is that if they really need to talk with me, they can pay a human being to do it. If everyone were to follow the same policy, then companies like AT&T would have to change how they communicate with their customers and show more respect for our time.
Started getting calls from these people a few days ago saying aomething about my AT&T wireless acct. I have Verizon for home and mobile. So to clear the confusion I calle back the number, Pressed 0 to get thru the BS so I would automatically be taken to an operator. I was on hold for 30 sec. to a minute. A woman responded asking for my wireless # or acct. # and told her that that was the problem, I didn't have an acct. with them and that all my phone uses were with Verizon. I told her I was getting calls to my home and she could try looking up my home #. She didn't even find my # in the system and began apologizing for the inconvenience, but she couldn't do a thing without acct. info. She again apologized saying how much that would annoy her. I told her she did what she could and thanks anyway. No need to be rude, wasn't as if she was personally calling me to annoy me. From there I went to www.donotcall.gov (where I am already registered) and reported it. If it persists after several filed complaints I will then probably have to call back and speak to a higher power to get this resolved.
We repeatedly get calls from these clowns. Tey are silent when I answer and remain that way till I hang up.
