I just got off the phone with this number. My bill was late, I called and told them I paid a the internet this morning. THey said thank you and that was all. They did ask for the last 4 digits of my social, but not the whole number. THis was not a scam. It's just a call saying "PAY YOUR BILL!"
Yes it is a scam. I have had SPRINT for the past 3 years and started getting calls from this number in the past few months. Why would it be legitimate if I've never had Cingular?Does anyone know how to get them to stop calling?
Its not a scam. It is ATT because I have had this call before also and you do not have to give them any info if you have previously paid your cell phone bill this way.
Smells like scam... I got the call just today 4/22/08. I don't have wireless account with ATT or anyone at this time. Fearing that someone possibly opened one up with my account, I called the ATT number listed at their web - not the one on the voice mail. ATT rep looked up my first and last name, and home phone, the one that was called. ATT rep said "we do not have an account in your name". So I am unsure if a scam or not. NOTE: The voice on this number is the SAME voice and messages as the ATT number voice. So if its a scam it seems to have copied the voice. Still, I would NOT give out personal data to anyone on this number!
I don't know about the people getting calls that are not Cingular/AT&T customers, but this is the phone number for Cingular/AT&T's collections department. My gripe against them is I get a call every month from them, even if the account is not past due. Actually just got off the phone with them now and they said my account was fine and they did not know why I was being called. I asked them to make a note in my file not to call unless I really am past due on my account as it is beyond annoying.
I am a huge skeptic, so I had trouble believing this, but it is NOT a fraud. It's really AT&T. I just called them back and talked to a representative (who never asked for any credit card info). I told her that they'd called me and I didn't know why. She told me that my account had an over due balance (in which I then checked the website, and it is overdue). Call for yourself if you're unsure (check the website first to verify what they tell you).
This one called on April 26th in the early AM. Did not realize that it was Cingular calling. Glad that I now know.
I just got an automated call from this number claiming to be AT&T/Cingular saying I needed to pay my bill and call their 800 number with credit card info on hand. Unfortunately for these scam artists, they called my land line, WHICH IS NOT AT&T! My cell is, but I also have autopay. I'm never late. These jerks are pretty brazen to be playing with the big guys!
This is ATT/Cingular/ATT. It is their recovery collection department and they are going after old unpaid bills. Many people dont realize that when they make some changes to their account they get a new account number and the old account ends up with a residual balance. I had one when I switched from Att analog to digital. A month afterwards I received a bill and thought it was an error and let it go. Later on it caught up to me. When I added my wife to my account on the family plan she had a left over balance from here ATT account and they are hunting it down now by leaving auto messages from the same 800 number. For those who have never had ATT I can only say that someone else had your number (home or cell) before you and left a balance.I spent 45 minutes on the phone with ATT discussing this. Its not a scam.
