Definitely the Census Bureau.Doing a survery for the Labor and Statistics about household expenditure.Took 13 minutes but wasn't intrusive unless you are bothered about saying how much you spent on fresh fruit and veggies at Walmart in the last 2 weeks.
The Census Bureau's National Processing Center is located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Most of the telephone numbers from the Census Bureau at 812-218-xxxx numbers. If you get the call they will authenticate that they are actually from the Census Bureau. The Bureau is getting ready for the 2010 Decennial Census and is probably getting their records in order.
I got several"Occupant" mailings from a Census Bureau (Family something or another) to my street address. I reside in a rural town where I get my REAL mail at the Post Office. The street address is for UPS or FedEx deliveries only. Well, this call comes through today (I didn't answer it.) and they leave a callback number on the voice mail. Judging from surfing the 'net' and info sites like this I've determined that it is a survey team hired by the Government to do their work for them. The caller did not mention me by name nor did they announce my address. For them to attempt to call me back and expect that I will give them my social security number and a tremendous amount of other personal information over the phone is beyond ridiculous in a day where identity theft is rampant. To expect me to call them back at the number they left on the voice mail is way over the top. My suggestion is to go to the local county seat and find out how many and who lives at my address from voter registrations. Or, doesn't the Government trust their ACORN representatives' information gathering techniques so that they have to resort to telemarketer style ambush schemes? "Yes, ma'am. Two adults live at the address to which you sent your survey and to which you did your Polk city directory address crossover telephone number search. We are Caucasion. That's all the information you will need and it's certainly all you are going to get. Thank you. Bu bye." If they want any sensitive information that I wouldn't give to anyone but Jesus, then they better come to my house armed with a subpoena and Federal Marshals to take me away in shackles. Is this the change that Obama promised us? Great. I'll be voting for anyone BUT Obama next time.
You want my social security number? Ok. Give me yours first. Oh, and give me your home phone number so I can call you on Saturday too. Love and kisses. Ignorant azzholes!
I am Amish. I am the computer at the library with help from nice librarian using. Nobody should come to my farm again to ask information that from many years ago they already have. In 40 years we moved not. The same information ist good today that in 1970 was good alzo. Auf Wiedersehen.
I received two "surveys" over the past 6 mos. addressed to no more than "occupant" that wanted to know personal and private things like 'What time do you leave for work?" Really now. What does when I leave for work have to do with how many or who lives at a particular address? Too many other nosey questions in a world where identity theft is running rampant. I'll choose to pass on that one and will continue to dodge their phone calls. After all the inconvenience they've caused me so far, should they show up in person asking questions, they better be wearing a goalie mask.
I got that same packet. When has the census wanted to know your salary, bonus information etc. Census is how many people live at a given address not how much they make. It will be a cold day in hell before I give them that information.
I do not give any personal information about myself out over the phone. I just don't do it. Sorry.
I work at the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, IN, and I can assure you that 812-218-3144 is in fact a Census Bureau number and calls from that number are legitimate. The 3144 number is the number that shows up in caller ID for all calls originating from the call center in Indiana. Because the call center conducts a variety of surveys, callers leave toll-free callback numbers that are specific to the survey rather than ask callers to call the 3144 number. That is why the 3144 number terminates in a recording.
They came to my house last month. and told my daughter that I had to call them. Ok so I called them. after 40 min. of questions. I thought ok there I did it, I am done. Not to bad. well with in the last 5 days they have called my house approx 3 times a day. They wont stop until you answer the phone. So I answered the phone. answered another 10 min of questions. does this go one ever month? I dont mind answering questions if this is indeed from the u.s. census. No problem, but why???????? so many phone calls? They act like they are from the FBI and we are all beneath them. Like I said I dont mind answering questions for the U.S. census but they really need to get off their power trip..
