The census forms don't go out until March 2010. They have called me at all times of the day for months. I finally answered and they said they needed to know if i received the form. That said it all. If the forms don't go out until March ....why would I have already received it. They are just fishing for information. Don't answer your phone.
I know someone that got a call one day and were told they were from the census bureau and asked them a few questions. A week later the FBI showed up, it turned out that it was the FBI that called them pretending to be a Census worker, that made sense especially with all the questions they asked like work hours, when you leave, how many weapons you own, all that sort of stuff. I am not sticking up for any illegal activity but what I have read here it seems a lot like what they went through with all phone calls and "surveys".
I received a call supposably from the census bureau on my cell phone. I am suppose to have that number also on the gov do not call list. I told the man this was a cell phone and i was NOT suppose to be getting calls on it and hung up.
I think they would have to mail you something. They can't just threaten you over the phone because they can;t prove that it's actually "you" they are talking to. Don't answer and invest in caller ID.
The next time you see their caller id have a loud whistle or airhorn strategically placed by the phone. Pick it up and blow the sucker right into the mouthpiece.Maybe then they'll get the message.
The phone number is legit. I double checked it on the website. I had completed a survey for them and learned that the reason they called me was that when I was completing the form, some of the pages stuck together and I did not fill it all out. The person I was speaking was reading information off the survey I had filled out.Word to the wise--before getting mad at the callers think about the last time you completed a survey for them, etc. They most likely are following up on it. There is no need to be rude--they are doing there job.
To Census Employee,How do we know that you REALLY work for the Census Bureau? You could be anyone, one of the people who bug the heck out of us all, at all hours of the day! Why would you even be on this site looking up the number in the first place? Sounds a little fishy to me! I've hung up on them, and now I just don't answer my phone. Why is it the surveys aren't supposed to come out until the middle of March, but quite a few people have already recieved them, like in January?!!
Why doesn't the census bureau just mail me something? Instead they keep calling me at the most inconvienient times. Now I am suspicious and will not talk to them. They are annoying and it needs to stop.
I too got a call from this number wanting me to verify all of this information just now at 5:19p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009.After answering numerous questions, I told the caller that I was in the process of filling out the questionare and would return it in a few days. when I mentioned that I had received several of them he stated "well, one good thing about the Federal Government is they don't have to pay for postage".I told the caller they might not pay for postage but they sure pay to have it printed! What is with these people?
