Received calls 3-4 times a day for 2 weeks from 812-218-3144 with Caller ID stating "Census Bureau". Also same from 520-798-4152. According to my local Census Bureau Office, this is not legitimate and most calls from US government will have caller ID showing "US Government" or similar. Beware giving these callers any information!!

i work for the census bureau and this number is legit. they do more than the census every 10 years. there are several mini-census's, economic, agricultural, etc. that go on after the main census. by law, you are required to complete these forms. there is possible jail time and fines attached if you don't. if you are in doubt, you can ask to speak with a supervisor and they will give you the info you need to authenticate who they are and their purpose. however, the easiest way to prevent these calls is to fill out the forms.oh, btw, the reason they are calling about your address is they may have 2 or more addresses on file for you or may have had mail returned. they have to have the proper address on record in order to send out your 10 yr census, which is coming up very soon. otherwise, they will try to contact you again and send someone to your house if you refuse to answer.census is supported by the u.s. constitution.

I keep getting calls from this and other numbers since the Censes Bureau started leaving messages from 240-420-6029 I am not responding.......this is harassment

Ugh. Seriously...take this [***] out of here. There is no 'law' that they have to talk to you. If there were forms from the government that had to be filled out, the government would have no problems mailing them themselves. There is NO JAIL TIME you [***]. Post the statute since you seem to know it so well to be able to quote from it.You're a scammer plain and simple.

Received a call on my cell from this number. They left no message and there was no caller ID info other than the number used.

A little research yes... to discover that none of the links or addresses you provide actually contain the phone number in question (812-218-3144).

No actual government employee would be posting here, in an official capacity anyway, without fully verifiable contact information. If you're some GS-2 janitor in Poughkeepsie with a chip on your shoulder, then I can understand your post.

I called the Census Bureau and they said it is a legite survey, but is sent out randomly. They said I was correct in not giving out personal info and put in a complaint for me. I just got another call now and they said they would keep calling until they got the information. I will be contacting the Bureau again and probably my congress man.

Hmm, why not post a link directly to the article you mention instead of one to the Title 13 page (detailing how government employees are sworn for life to protect your confidential information)?? More mis-direction from the scammers...And still no information regarding your business contact information. If you are, in fact, a representative of the Census Bureau, then tell us how to get in touch with you *by name* to discuss the matter of these intrusive phone calls.
