I received a call from Jenny whom requested that I perform a "windows key +R" function on my laptop to get the license number. She claimed that my computer notified them that the Windows operating system had been hacked and she was going to fix the problem. I requested as to how my computer notified her and she again claimed that they worked on behalf of Windows/Microsoft to take care of these issues. I ran "Jenny" through the gammit of acting stupid as to how to perform "windows key +R" she got extremely frustrated with me and transferred me to her supervisor "Dexter Gray". Dexter, with his dashing English accent speaking faster than lighting, immediately jumped into telling me to perform the same function of which again I acted stupid and questioned as to how he obtained my cell phone number of which he had no response. Dexter was getting VERY perturbed with me, maybe he honors the "time is money" philosophy as I do, so again he gave the same song and dance "were contracted to repair these problems, there are many companies that do this for them, we are just trying to help you" as Jenny gave and immediately rambled "you just need to push the windows key +r". However, as I ran Jenny and Dexter through the "I don't understand which keys, now where is that key, and now again how did you get my number if I didn't call you for a repair?, and by the way Dexter I'm confused at this point as I just googled "860-951-7532" while we are talking and there are numerous fraud reports and cyber crime warnings", Dexter said those were inaccurate. Dexter made the fatal error--he allowed me to walk him to his fate, he yelled "there are a lot of companies that do PC troubleshooting, your cell number is in databases, that's how we make money, and it's not cyber crime because we do not charge you for the troubleshooting". At this moment Dexter revealed exactly why he called and how he called. After Dexter's rambling hissy on the phone I let him know that I had recorded the call and asked him if there was anything that he would like to say directly to the Attorney General of the United States while on his recording. Dexter hung up on me. Now that was just rude!
My caller id said China! With call center background noise, a guy with a heavy accent named "John" said he was a computer technician. I said "wrong number" then hung up and blocked the numbed.
They are still at it, a girl with a very heavy accent trying to "warn" me that my computer is infected
Lady with an indian accent called and said I was having problems with my computer and if I wanted it protected. I told her my computer was protected. She argued with me saying my computer was not protected that it had downloaded some file and asked if I wanted to fix it. I proceeded to tell her that my computer hasn't been on for 3 days so how could it have downloaded anything. She started to say something else, but I just hung up.
Call from 516-210-0388 Hartford, CT per caller id. Said I had a virus and to go to my home computer. Said he was from Windows Technical Dept. told me to hit Windows key and R. I told him I had to call him back and asked his number. He indicated 860-951-0398, no extension. Just ask for Andrew. Definitely a scam .
Called my cell. Make-Middle Eastern accent. Said he called about my computer. RED FLAG. I told him "sorry, this is a scam call" and immediately hung up.
Just got a call that showed Hartford Conn. I played along as a dumb hick. He bought it and I kept him going for 10 minutes. Maybe this kept him from trying to scam someone else. He says he is Windows support.
Got a call from this number. This is a scam! They want you to believe that there is a problem with your computer and want you to give them access to fix the problem. Do Not give them any information. I politely told the caller that there was no problem with my computer. I live with two IT guys and they service my computer. He became nervous, apologized and then hung up.
Received cold call at my home landline. Caller ID showing Hartford, CT, (860) 951-7532. Male with Middle Eastern accent. Don't remember if he said he was with Microsoft or Windows support. I knew immediately that this was a scam, but played along to see how far he'd go. He stated that my computer was infected (reporting), proceeded to ask if I knew my IP address. I asked how he knew it was MY computer reporting the issue, he stated that he could tell me my Windows key, then asked again if I knew my IP address. His insistence made me angry, so I just hung up and proceeded to report the issue to the FTC, Microsoft and here.
