I just received the same kind of call about having a problem with my home computer but they didn't say Geek Squad. He wanted to know when i would be home so they could call me back to help assist me. I told them I didn't have a home computer to see what they would say and they hung up. I attempted to call back as well and it has the disconnect message. Scam for sure!
This is a complete scam! I wish I had seen this site first. They are trying to sell you software security supposedly for $600 for 5 years, 10 years for $900 and lifetime $1500
Guy with a foreign accent told me that my area code had been hacked and wanted me to access my computer. That's right, my AREA CODE. I said, "Wait. You expect me to believe that my telephone AREA CODE has been hacked?" He stated that hackers had been "detected" in my "area". I hung up.
I just got a call in Houston which I refused since my iPhone identified it as +86 (0) 951-7532 Yinchuan, Ningxia, China! Well my best friend doesn't live there. And we can all get the gist of their scam. Here's my funny bit; my computer DOES have at least one hacked virus sent through Outlook which finally blocked me & locked me out of that email acct. . After I found I could access & open some of those old emails through the new Gmail set up on my iPhone - my iPhone has been snarky! Ha!...Yinchuan, Ningxia, China to the rescue!!
SCAM!!! They claim to be a computer tech and then want you to log into their website where they will hold your computer hostage. I have extensive computer knowledge so played along with them for a while reporting errors to them. When my wife had lunch ready I said "ok man I know your a scammer I've just been messing with you till lunch was ready gotta go". He sounded so pissed and cursed me out in whatever language he speaks LMAO.
Just got a repeat call from these scammers. The area code is the same, but the rest of the number is slightly different. Makes it difficult to block.
Total Scam, told me my computer was sending error message for 2 week. Absolutely Impossible as Comcast had to restring my cable drop yesterday (was down for 2 weeks). Had the nerve to argue with me about it and wouldn't give up.
They called me too! What the hell do they want? I never answer. They have called me twice this week.
Today, they called my elderly mom's cell phone to troubleshoot PC issue.I've got 5 years+ call center tech experience, I advised her to hang up. They're phishing.Next call: unknown caller. meaning they deliberately blocked their caller ID info. Then, one more call from this number.I talked to him.He introduced himself as being with (unintelligible) PC Support.I made him repeat everything twice. Name of company still unintelligible.I advised him that this phone he called is a per-minute use cell phone. He is liable to reimburse her each minute he burns on the call. Truth. He scrambled for a rebuttal...epic fail.I advised him that if he is INDEED one who deals with us, he would NOT have her cell as a contact.Surely, he knows to call the house phone...not on file? Awww...I then advised him of my background in tech support.I advised him that I'm fully aware of what he's trying to do, have his number and here we are.He hung up without replying, of course.
