It is ILLEGAL for anyone to 'monitor' your computer without your knowledge and permission! $50,000 fine and 15 years in prison in my state. Keep that in mind when a caller says he knows what's going on with your computer. No legitimate business cold calls people about their computers.
Some lady from an unknown number called me on my cell phone (that's registered on the Do No Call list) claiming to be from "Geek Support Live", saying my computer had issues. Sounded like an Indian accent. Obviously a scam, but I was interested on where I could take this.I Googled the company and told her the search results said they were a scam - and she was persistent on convincing me they weren't, if I could just visit a site she was trying to instruct me to go to. I then asked since they're providing me with support service, how much am I paying a month (or whatever rate) and where could I find the invoices. She then said "It's not like that, we don't work like that", and said if I could visit a site, she could explain it to me. This took forever, about 6 tries per question because she kept immediately interrupting me, trying to instruct me to go to a site - as if I was just going to stop trying to ask a question and just do what she said if she interrupted me enough times, the fact that she restarts her statement from the beginning every time to interrupt me obviously means she knows she's interrupting me and doing it intentionally, or else she would let me finish talking after the 2nd or 3rd attempt to talk. She kept insisting I follow instructions to some website to view something they had to show me. She was so excited to show me, she kept cutting me off with instructions while I was trying to get more information. I had a few more questions - each took a lot of time because she would constantly interrupt me, but the phone call cut off - I assumed she hung up from me calling out her BS - but she immediately called me back at this number asking if I had time to visit that website. I was work and I was annoyed at how rude some people are willing to be on the phone just to scam them, so I hung up.
Just received a call from this number. The name of the company was blocked so I did not answer. In checking the comments on this site I see it is the old fix your computer scam. Great comments here.
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM Got a call from this #, he had a heavy accent when he started. I ask him where is he calling from he says PC Support so I strung him along for a little (I was bored & knew this is a SCAM) so I ask him again where are you calling from he says Geek Support so I ask why did he change the name- he didn't like that. So I'm like oh ok so what do I do he goes back to his accent.... so when he bored me even more than I was before I call bs & he flippin lost it called me all kinds of B's & H's for wasting his time.i guess he was more so upset because I was laughing at him he then told me he had nothing better to do than call me & he was going to continue calling me *which he did from the 860 # & also from a unknown # for 10 minutes straight.
I got the same call, I told him that I don't have a computer then he said ,does anyone in the house use a computer I said no then he said thank you for your time & I said but I have a cell phone that uses my Internet since my Internet was in danger, he then said thank you for your time and hung up
Took two hellos before they responded. Sounded more like an African accent than Indian... he said he was calling regarding my computer problem. I asked him who was he calling thinking possible wrong number. He answered "you, about your computer". I asked "and who am I?". His reponse "you don't know who you are, [***]?"Click. Block.Lovely world we live in.
They called me at noon CST 03-03-2016. As above, a woman with an Indian accent told me she was Tech Support and asked if I was near my computer.I asked "which computer?" just to see how far we could go.She replied "your personal computer. Are you near it?"I told her I was at work and she immediately hung up. I guess they fear a corporation getting involved, as most of them have lawyers and IT departments who love to bill for stuff.A couple of hours later I received a different call from a different number, it was a credit card scam.
