Got a call from an Arab man saying he was "tech support." I thought something sounded fishy but I went along with it anyway up until the point I realized I was about to be scammed. At that point I just hung up. Hopefully this helps someone else who is wondering who these freaks are.
Just got a call from a male (caller ID number 860-951-7532) who sounded like he was from India saying he was calling on behalf of Microsoft to let me know my computer was infected. He said that I needed to log on my computer and give him the license # so he could repair it. I knew it was a scam and hung up on him. This occurred on 12/28/15 at 10:18 a.m. CST.
Just got off the phone with Alan Brown from Geek Support about something I downloaded onto my PC off an unsafe site, and needed to connect to my computer with him to clean my computer. Right. Alan had a thick Indian accent, we are a MAC family, told me I could easily verify them by going to their website, said they are based out of Hartford, and it would be easier for them to call me back, instead of them. Then argued with me.
Same person saying I have a virus in my computer, I also hung up. Is their a way we can catch these [***]
This guy called to tell me i have malicious files on my computer. I said which one because i have 5 computers. He seemed shocked and repeated it. I knew this was a scam immediately!!!! He said this is not a sales call. Just go on your computer and enter this information. I said oh, I don't think this is a sales call at all. I think this is a SCAM!!! He laughed and said a scam?! I said yes. he said well check out our web site at www.gigsupportlive.com and call us back at 855-481-5399. He stated his name was ? Gavy ? He was of Eastern descent. Needless to say, he didn't get any info from me!!! Of course i am unable to locate webpage.
Indian girl calls me (Mumbai accent) on a spoofed number (Hartford, CT) and tells me my computer is sending error messages all over the internet. They were from Windows (not Microsoft) and would help me fix it. I recognized this scam at once. They take you to a website where they put ransomware on your computer and then charge you to take it off. I wasted her time for at least 20 minutes pretending to be old and deaf and not understanding anything. When I got her good and exasperated I told her I knew she was a scammer and spent several minutes telling her what bad karma it is to scam people.
Got a call from this number 0815 Alaska time, Indian guy said he was calling about my computer having virus attacks going on and he could tell me where to located them. Ask me if I could go to my computer, I said I couldn't at this time, he then said I have two words for you then he said F#$K You, I laughed in dibelief then tried to call the number back and got a disconnected message.
Caller ID said Hartford, and as I used to live in CT and have friends and former colleagues living in the area I answered. Hispanic sounding woman said she was with Geek Support and was calling about my computer. I said yeah, what about it. She went silent and I could hear the sounds of a call center in the background, another woman came on and said "sir?" I said yeah, and then they hung up. Obviously somebody on a fishing expedition, but not a very bright crowd. Must have been in training or something. Idiots. Blocked the number.
Caller ID said "Hartford, CT". When I answered, no one was on the line for a bit. After about the 4th "hello" a guy answered. He said he was ____ (i couldn't understand what name he said), and that he was a computer tech. I immediately hung up.Has anyone actually had any computer problems, identities stolen, or anything like that, since having this call?
They've been trying to get a hold of me from different #s for the last three days (at least I'm guessing, I've gotten three calls from 860 area code). I'm supposed to be on the DNC so this is really frustrating. Finally answered today and the guy said "I am American tech support and call about your computer" and I immediately hung up.
