I got a message just about the as everyone one else on this message, called the mumber, they wanted my card number, but since I didn't have an AMEX card, I just said that "I wasn't an AMEX card holder, but I had just gotten a message from them to call me about my card, into the phone. A customer service rep came on and assured me that it was just a mistake, and to verify I didn't have an account with them asked for my name or soc#, like a dumb [***] I gave him my Soc#, and he verified I had no account with them. What's going on???
got the second message this morning, about an urgent business matter concerning our personal account. A real AMEX rep will not ask you to have your account number handy when you call. If they are truly AMEX reps, they already have your account number. Protect yourselves and report scams like these!
Thanks to the good advice above, I called the number on the back of my card after receiving the same phone message. The man at Amex said my account was current, verified that the most recent charges were mine and that if it was important Amex would call me back. I'm not about to call that number. Thanks everyone.
It's all true!!! American Express Co."Credit Dept." wants your 16 digit account # and your SS#. This IS American Express...bill was paid in full on time (early), no reason to call. My husband cancelled Credit Card after two weeks of innocuous phone calls/messages at home and office. I will post on every site I can find.Customer service is nil.
THIS IS A WELL KNOWN SCAM. THE PEOPLE CLAIMING IT'S LEGIT ON THIS WEBSITE ARE PART OF THE SCAM.DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR INFORMATION.YOU WILL BE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR IDENTITY THEFT IF YOU GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR INFORMATION.IF YOU'VE ALREADY GIVEN THEM YOUR INFO YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM IDENTITY THEFT BY CONTACTING EACH OF THE THREE CREDIT BUREAUS AND PLACING A FRAUD ALERT ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT.IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO CONFIRM THIS, GET THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER FROM THE AMEX WEBSITE AND CHECK WITH THEM.
multiples calls and messages about "an important business matter from American Express" but the fraud dept and accounts dept don't recognize the number and there is no reason either department could find why anyone at amex would be calling me - this smells like a scam to me.
Got a call from this number. Do not have AMEX. Called and talked to a rep. They asked for my acct# and explained I did not have an account. They asked for the ph# they called. Then the rep got all rude and said that there is an over the credit limit on the acct and a 4 month past due bill. She got REALLY RUDE with me and I promptly demanded to speak to her supervisor. She refused. I then asked the name of which the account holder is? She demanded MY NAME and said if I didn't give it to her that this would go to collections effective Monday (this was a saturday). I then said, "I know this phone call is being recorded. You have reached an incorrect number. On one in this household has an AMEX account. Please take this phone number ***-***-**** off your system. If you do not I will file a complaint with AMEX consumer affairs, CEO office, FTC, State Banking Division, BBB, and contact my attorney the next time I receive a call from AMEX. Thank you." and she said, "Ok sir i have deleted your phone number from our system. Thank you" click. wow
