American Express Calling about problems with my credit card. Ummmm I don't have an AmEx card. When you call it sounds just like AmEx even asking for your credit card number.I even called American Express - they don't have this number.
Similar to the other comments, I received this call on 10/08/2007 wanting to know my Amex number when I called back. Obviously bogus.
I work for American Express in the Account Security Group, and I can assure you this is a valid phone number for our Account Services Department! If you ever have doubts about the number being fake, don't hesitate to call the number on the back of your card and a representative can verify for you that the number is valid.
I called AmEx- I can confirm that this number is legit. It's for corporate card accounts. I took Natasha's advice and called the number on the back of my card for peace of mind -- they couldn't identify the number at first, but then called it themselves and confirmed it is an American Express number.
They have now left two messages. Fortunately, I checked before calling and have not called them back. I have posted this number on our blog site so others do not fall for the scam.
I received a call from this number leaving a message to call AMX "urgently about a business matter." I called and got suspicious when the said my account was past due and demanded immediate payment, including routing and account numbers for my checking account so they could draft their overdue payment. My account is current. I refused to provide them with the information and called the number of the back of the card. They told me that my account was current and that the call was bogus... so what's going on? They did have a accurate accounting of my account balance leaving me with the impression that whoever was calling had inside information. AMX said don't worry about it... so what's going on? As a law enforcement official I will be contacting the FTC on Monday.K
We received multiple voicemail messages from a woman claiming to want to speak with us about our "American Express Small Business Account". She left this number 1-888-819-2135. When I finally called that number, it seemed like the real deal. They asked for my credit card number. I told them I didn't have an American Express card (not true). I asked if she could look up my account by my name. She said she needed my social security number. I said bye-bye. Definitely not legitimate!
I received a call a few weeks ago on my work office phone, I called them, didnt give them any information, stayed untill i talked to a representative and requested to be removed from their calling list. I just got another call today and again requested to be removed. Seems like a scam to me, i've never had an amex card and no idea why they would have my office phone number tied to an account. My father was a victim of identity fraud so I don't take any chances with my personal information. I would definately call the number on your card or billing statements like others have been suggesting and get the issue resolved though those channels or get documentation from amex stating it is a legitimate branch of their company in case you do become a victim you could probably collect from amex.
