I get one of these every weekend.I called the number on the back of my AMEX card. They were able to confirm that 888-819-2135 is in fact the AMEX "Credit Department".So I called the 888 number and they took a look at my accounts but couldn't figure out why I am being called. They also claim that they have no "reverse lookup" so they have no way of looking up which account the phonenumber is related to. It seems that their computer is putting me on the "call list" and there is no way to get it turned off permenantly. All they can do is take me off the call list, and hope that someother computer doesn't put me back on!
I've received two of these messages lately with the 2nd one being this morning. My work phone didnt even ring, but I had the voice mail light blinking. It was the typical "urgent business matter", however my company doesn't use Amex corporate. Figuring it was a bogus call, I had a fun time just messing the girl on the phone. But when I told her I was going to give this number to our company's credit card investigation department, which we don't have, she thanked me for calling and quickly hung up. Don't fall for this!
I called today and the computer voice asked me right away for my credit card number. I hung up. There seemed to be no way to reach THorses Phorsen who called me except by way of giving my credit card number. I am glad I came to this website first.
I called AMEX using the number on their website. They verified that it was a ligit number.
I have received two calls, one about three days ago, a faint woman's voice - sort of scratchy & poorly recorded. The other, a man's voice, came today. It had a better audio quality and sounded much more authoritative.
Called this number after they called me 4 times in three weeks. Very professional sounding person answered. Asked questions and I succumbed to giving my SS# as I had done business with AmEx years ago and wanted to be sure there wasn't something wrong. Stupid choice in my part. Gut told me this was fraud. Called AmEx on another number. They could not verify that this number was theirs. Put fraud alert on credit and filed a report with FTC. Have secured fraud insurance also. Don't panic if you succumbed. Just take action to protect yourself. Google Identity Fraud and get to work!
Recieved a call today and called them back. The recording was a man and sounded legit. Before leaving my cc#, I hung up,. I then called Amex with the number behind the card and they didnt know the number. I gave it to them and they tried but it didnt work for them. They said that sometimes they are not allowed to call out. I put her on conference, so can hear it, and then she said that it is legit... You can call them again and ask for a representative. I did just that and it was Amex. I didnt give them any information other than my card# and they said I was current. They dont know why I got the call in the first place. Hmmm, still sounds fishy to me.
Man called on my machine and asked for me and spoke broken english. After that automated voice said this is not a telemarketing call and to call Amex about a small business. Caller said it was American Express. Interesting don't have a business card. This is fraud
I got an automated call today on my voice mail from "American Express" requesting I call 1-888-819-2135 "urgently about a business matter." My identity was stolen 2 years ago, which I found out about when AmEx called to verify the 2 new Gold cards I had taken out. Since I had not opened any AmEx accounts, I dealt with their fraud unit in this matter. I called the AmEx Fraud unit who verified the closed fraudulent accounts and that I owed nothing and had no accounts with them. They investigated 1-888-819-2135 and said "it is an old number for their credit department" not in use now. I was told to ignore any other calls from that number. Hope this helps.
This company, bogus or not, left a recorded message on my school's mainline, which I'm responsible for checking. However, there was no name indicating to whom the call should be routed. I just called the number, and I continued to hit the "0" button until I was connected with a representative. I think it's a bogus, but high quality, scam.
