Not a scam. They knew the balance on the card, never asked for my card # or SS#.. The card they were calling about was open fraudulently in my name and they were able to verify everything that I had told the fraud dept that I never told them on the call about. Going to say it was a legitimate call if not is the absolute best scam job call I've received as they asked for no personal information.
888.819.2135 is the number that an auto dialer, which calls from 800.526.4800, asks you to call (888.819.2135) in order to discuss an important matter with American Express.
I just received a call from this company. Asked if "My Name" was available. When I asked who was calling they identified themselves as American Express. They then said they'd called by mistake and hung up. Very strange. I will be calling AMEX to report.
American Express has called on this number and on 800-592-1160 7 times in the last 8 days. I do not haveAmerican Express and have called them back and emphatically criticized them at their "customer service"person. They indicated that my phone number was in error. They need to tell their robo caller.

I called the number on the back of my card and had them transfer me because I was feeling uneasy. They transferred me to the collections deepest end which then informed me I was in good standing and prompted me to hang up
This is not a scam. This is Amex credit dept. Call the number on the back of your card and they will ensure you that this is legit. Because of your post and the other uninformed posters on this site, it sent me and probably many others into a panic. This INDEED IS AMEX. Do your homework before posting please!
I don't have an American express card so how they got my number is beyond me. So there is no "important matter" for me to talk to them. They do not need to be calling me..... 2 times a day.... every day. I would think they would get the message that no one picks up and answers them whenever they call.
