I did not pick up when this number called as I did not recognize the number. Once I read the posts on this site, I called the 800 number on the back of my card to see if there was anything wrong. Turns out, a VERY large purchase was made in New York (while I was in the Chi) using my card - the card was physically swiped! The customer service representative was extremely helpful. He shut my card down and ensured the charges were denied. I am grateful for the fantastic monitoring practices of BOA as my other card is not nearly this responsive. That being said, I work in the financial services industry and HIGHLY recommend that you NEVER give personal information to anyone if you are not absolutely certain you know who you are speaking with. Always just call the number on the back of your card! Better safe than sorry.
It's really BofA. I called the number on the back of the card. They have issued me a new card and were just advising me as to why and it was to avoid fraudulent charges. Some card info has been compromised and they are protecting me as client. The morons on this site that say it's not BofA obviously aren't clients.. What else explains negative comments towards a company protecting it's clients?
Just got a call from this number, typed it in google, then came on here to see what was being said. Obviously alot of mixed views so i was curious to find out whether its legit or not.No voicemail had been left. And i wasnt about to phone it straight back.Phoned BoA direct off the back of my card, and they had not heard of the number. They also could not see any dodgey transactions within the past few days as i reeled off what transactions i had made. Either way i dont THINK its legit but at the same time it could be given other peoples views. As far as im concerened, my view is just phone BoA directly, dont give any info to this number. That way everything can be resolved and no one gets hurt.
Received call from "Card Services" with this number (302)731-1166 on Caller ID.They left message. Message was 57 seconds of silence, then a recorded announcement "This is Bank of America..." saying many cards have been compromised, and new card is being issued, and to please activate card ASAP.There was no suspicious activity on my account. Called BofA Fraud Department and they did not call, card is OK, they would not call anyway - they do not have all the phone #s or time to call all customers. If it was true they would issue letter with new card, so this must be scam but they don't know how such a scam would work. So beware.
This is in fact, from Bank of America. I felt uneasy about speaking to them so I called the 800 number on the back of my card. Yes, there was a charge on an UNACTIVATED mastercard of mine for $113.99 from an online singles place. They promptly reversed the charges & canceled the card. Please look into this if you receive this call. If you feel uneasy speaking to them, call Bank of America directly & they will help you.
This thread is positively hystarical. This is most certainly a real number, I received a call from it this morning informing me of a fraudelent transaction. Now in reality the transaction was fine, but Bank of America thought it was funky and wanted my confirmation.I would hope no one is dumb enough to think it is a scam, but look at the responses half of the scam variety are copied and pasted. Call their listed number if you feel you must, but it is unwarranted.
I received 2 phone calls so far today from this number. I have no idea who it is. I called the number back and I just get a busy signal. I am getting these phone calls on my cell. This is ridiculous!
Yes, it is a bank card number, it is there fraud unit trying to find out if you made any chargers that they think is fraudulent and they are trying to verify. I just talked to them after being called and I called them back on their 800 #.I had charges they caught by some company in France. So the number is good(302-731-1166)and belongs to Bank of America,Fraud Section. If you get a call from that number suggest you call them back on the 800 number and check your charges. They just are doing their job,Thank you
To explain a little more, and address some of the issues people have raised:Auto dialers can call at any time regardless of business hours.Call centers and automated calls can be run by third parties.Numbers like this are likely unmonitored, they are not set up to receive calls. It is possible for a call to be generated in error. It is possible for the situation to be resolved before the call is made, but after it is scheduled.Programs may be set up to leave, or not leave messages, and personal message systems may screw up whatever messages.Companies routinely do ask you for personal information. I don't know where the misconception came from, have none of you ever done business over the phone? While it is possible this number has been spoofed as part of a fraud before, the number does belong to BofA.
Julie,Thank you for making me realize the call was from Bank of America. I purchased xmas items and because I hadn't used the card in a while they"red flagged" the account as possibly fraudulent. Luckily that wasn't the case and my charges were legit.I hope all wrks out with your situation....
