I used the Bank of America live chat to check on my account after receiving a call from this number (I did not pick up). I changed the address on the account the day before the call. The representative from BofA check on my account and said a new card with new account number was sent 6 days before ( I have yet to receive it) due to a possible account compromise. They proactively canceled the previous account number and issued a new one to ensure the account remained secure. It has been done to protect the account. They said I will also receive a new credit card within 5 to 7 business days. I will also be able to see the new card number in one business day online. I will be able to use your current credit card for point of sale transactions till you receive the new one.So they don't directly address the phone number or say "We tried to call because..." BUT I have to assume its not a coincidence that I got the call AND something was going on with my BofA account.
THIS IS A LEGIT NUMBER. I HAVE JUST VERIFIED WITH BOA. I DID NOT ANSWER THIS NUMBER, LOOKED IT UP THROUGH GOOGLE SEARCH AND WOUND UP HERE. I DID NOT CALL THE NUMBER BACK, BUT CALLED THE NUMBER ON MY CARD TO REACH THEM. I FOUND OUT THEY WERE CALLING TO LET ME KNOW THAT MY CREDIT APPROVAL FOR RAISING MY LIMIT ON MY CREDIT CARD WAS APPROVED. I VERIFIED THE NUMBER WITH BANK OF AMERICA AND TOLD THEM OF THIS WEBSITE.
I recently went to Europe for a couple weeks and used my credit card in Poland to pay for my hotel stay. Since I've returned from my trip, every single time I use my card, I get a call from this number asking if I've recently made a transaction with the card. Literally every single time. No matter if I'm just buying a coffee or some grocery, I get a call 5 minutes later asking if I've just used my card. It gets pretty annoying. I would understand if its a big transaction like at a luxury handbag store or an electronic store but for a cup of coffee? I wish they have a better system where I don't have to confirm with the card company every time I use it. I appreciate the fraud protection but its stepping over the line.
I got a call from this number claiming it was B of A. They said my contact info had changed and if that was not the case, I should call an 866- number to report it. I didn't get the number down, so I called the B of A number on the card to get it straightened out. Unfortunately, even though the bills come to my address, the card is actually in my daughter's name. She had not used it for ** several years** - in fact, the last two cards had never even been activated. So of course I suspected fraud. The woman I spoke with at B of A was particularly unpleasant, because I was not the cardholder. She would not give me any information, even though I had the card, the bills, everything in hand. I told her I didn't want information, I just wanted to know if they had called me. But - she would not even tell me if it was a legitimate call I had received. Turned out, it was legitimate. My daughter is in the process of moving and was changing her address on all her accounts - even the one that had been coming to me. I spent a very frustrating hour trying to sort it out. I understand the bank needs to be hyper-vigilant, but can they not even say if a number calling me is them? I am very glad I do not have any accounts of my own with B of A.
this is 100% BOA fraud department. i called the 800 number on my card and they did say it was them that was calling. they then transferred me to the fraud department and they also confirmed that it was them that was calling from this number. not quite sure why people keep insisting this is a scam. the is 100% legit
If you get a call from this number, call Bank of America immediately. Use the number on the back of the card. Someone got my credit card number and racked up charges 3 days before Christmas and BOA caught it. Good job BOA and THANK YOU!
I missed a call from 302-731-1166 while I was on the phone with BOA to cancel my card. I believe that the number is really BOA, but NEVER give your card number out over the phone. When in doubt, flip your card over and call the 800 # printed on the card.
I got two calls from this number today, and found this board and another where some people said this was a scam and others said it was real. It's real, I called the 800# on the back of my Bank of America card and found that my card had been locked due to charges that were in fact fraudulent. They shut down my account and will issue me a new card. If you think it's a scam check your account online or call the # on the back of your card to verify the status of your account.
They said they were from fraud services...but yet asked for my credit card # immediately. BOA would never do that.
The number is apparently legitimate. While trying to book a flight on British Airways my B of A Visa was getting declined, despite it having ample available balance. The phone rang while I was online trying to get the card to go through. I ignored the call, then 10 minutes later I called their customer service for help. You can call B of A customer service at the number on the back of your Visa and ask them if this 302 area code number is one of theirs. I'm pretty sure you'll find it is. The timing of the call to me and my online purchase attempt was such that I am confident it was a legitimate call.
