Ironically received call from this number the same day I activated my new BOA debit card, which had been issued by BOA because I had previously done business with a merchant who had experienced a data breach. There was a voice mail left, but it was inaudible, and lasted for only a few seconds. I usually do not return calls, because I don't want scammers knowing they have hit an active number. However the remarks left here that this call might be associated with BOA prompted me to call back. After an introductory message about the other party being willing to accept collect calls from international numbers (strange), the familiar BOA music came on, and a recording announced that this was BOA. At this point, it sounded very legit. Then they asked me to enter my account number. Uh...NO. BOA never asks you to enter your entire account number unless you are authenticating your newly issued card number. I called BOA and reported this incident, and they verified that this is a scam. It had nothing to do with my newly issued debit card, and my account had not been compromised in any way. They are forwarding the report to their fraud dept. Would like to think that eventually they would get to the bottom of this and go after these suckers. REPEAT: THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR ACCOUNT/CARD NUMBER!
This number called me this morning, I was suspicious but I followed up by using one of the contact numbers listed under my BoA account page. This is a legitimate message, they had put a hold on my account. Things were cleared up.So, the message is legitimate. I would, however, still be very suspicious of numbers like these. I always use the numbers given to me when I've logged in to call and check on these. If it's legit, you'll find out through those with nary a problem.
Agree with most. Fraud. I am bofa customer, there is no unusual activity and my account works fine.
Got a call from this number yesterday- I refused to give caller any info; however I did call Bank of America @ their toll free number. It was Bank of America who called me to confirm that 3 debit charges I had made at the mall the night before were valid. So it is not a scam.
1/24/2015. Def a scam. BofA number on back of debit card has always been an 800Number. I've received several calls from this bogus number, but there is and as never been no unusual activity or hold on my account. Any customer of BofA should have alerts set for transaction activity. I believe the posts here saying the number is legit are actually perpetrators of this scam.
I know there is much debate over whether or not this is legit. I can say WITHOUT A DOUBT that this number is from BOA. I made several transactions with my business debit card and suddenly one transaction was declined. I immediately received an email from BOA reporting that my card was placed on hold due to suspicious activity. Shortly thereafter, I received a phone call from this number. It was automated. I followed the prompts and my hold was lifted. It IS legit. Word to your momma.
Not a scam...left a message saying that my card was used at a merchant that had been compromised and they are sending a new one. No info asked for nor did I have to call. Unless of course the new card turns out to be fake.
For the record, this is a legit BOFA telephone number and automated message. I just received a voicemail from this number in Utica, NY which mentioned there were suspicious charges on my debit card and that my account had been temporarily suspended. I thought it sounded very suspicious. I did not call back the number left in the voice mail, but rather called the fraud department at BOFA directly (number is on their website). Turns out someone tried to buy $500 worth of gift cards at a Home Depot using my card. I asked the rep if the call I received was legit and he said that if it came from Utica, NY it was legit. While I agree the voice mail sounds like a scam (I also received a similar message via text), it definitely was not in this instance. Not sure about some of those claiming to have received a call from this number without having a BOFA bank account, but there is no doubt my card information was stolen and the call from this number was to inform me of the suspicious activity on my account.
