This is AES. It is no scam. They called me because I was late on my student loan payment and I was late on my payment. I since have caught up on my student loan so they are no longer calling me. So everyone else posting here, I recomend you pay you loan or make arrangments for an official default if you want them to stop calling you.
I've had numerous phone calls from AES (from this number) over the course of the last year and a half. More recently, I've had arguments with them because I too am in school and my loans are in deferment. They don't seem to care because they try to "fix" the problem by mailing stuff out and taking up to 10 days to process forms, all while you're getting more phone calls and receiving negative credit hits. I'm just increasing some other aid to get extra money to pay off AES because I can't handle arguing with the incompetent people working for them. Good Luck!
So the fact that I am paying everything on time (actually over what I owe) each month, means they are calling me for...? What? When I answered they said nothing and hung up. I called back and no answer. If this IS really AES they have the suckiest people and procedures for trying to get back payments.I think YOU work for them and come on here to try to reinstate the scam, if I am wrong...oh well.
I get calls from this they just hung up. This time I decided to google the number and not so surprisingly I found that others have a similar problem.
Unwanted call claiming to be AES wanting money for school loans or saying my payment is late.
They scam "works" because so many people ARE late with school loans and believe they are being hounded for it. They simply contact ALL people who have school loans and know that late people will/may respond.Check with Financial Aid/Sallie Mae/your school and they will ALL tell you. There are dozens of ways to work with or defer the payment. School loans debts don't behave like the typical credit card company. They are the most lenient system in the country, so don't fall for this BS.
I just received a call from this number today. It just had my first name and maiden name on the voicemail. I called back and was told that the line didn't receive incoming calls, but to call 1-800-233-0557. When calling the 800 number, I was asked to verify certain information, just like always. I was then told that a piece of mail came back and they were trying to confirm my new mailing address. Since I had updated it on their online system (www.aessuccess.org), I asked them what they had. They read my current address and were able to give me more info about my student loans. Though it may not be the most customer friendly way to approach this, it is a legit number.
These people are legit...just incredibly stupid.I am totally up to date on my loans. I go online and check them every two weeks because I'm paranoid (yeah, and a little OCD...so what?). I am totally up to date on my loans and these idiots keep calling me. One time I picked up and prepared to launch into them and threaten to sue them for harassment. I, very firmly, said "I don't know what your problem is, but my loans are up to date!" The woman sat there for about five minutes and finally said "hmm...you ARE paid up." Yet, they continue to call. They also call my grandmother who cosigned the loan with me. I don't know what else to do, so I just ignore them, keep my loans paid up, and keep a very close eye on my credit report.
