Read the law. When a credit card company(really a bank) releases the debt to a collection agency, they collect the insurance for the debt. It is paid off at that point. Also, where does credit come from? Credit comes from your signature on an agreement(not contract). What did the credit card company really give you? NOTHING! You went to a store, used a credit card and left with a product. You have a product that a merchant gave you, the credit card company pleased the merchant, and the credit card is made up money anyway, so what did the credit card company give to you that is worth paying back with your hard earned cash? NOTHING!Think about it. Ask the credit collection agent why they are calling? Why do you owe them, for what? Ask them how much money did they give you? Ask them what good or service did they provide for the payment they request? They can not answer these questions legitimately. If they attack you, ask again.
the man had a computerized voice, left a number (1-800-450-6575) said he was a law firm from marietta, ga.
I screen my calls and this number comes up from Frederick Hann. I do not have unpaid bills!
These [***] hats have called twice now wanting to speak with me about some money owed through a credit card company. One I do not have a credit card and have not had one in YEARS is what I told them and second if I do owe money to this company I will not go through a third party to pay them and hung up.
pick up the phone and tell them they have the wrong #. Nobody wants to waste their time. If they are looking for you and have all your info look up your credit report if you think you dont owe anybody and find out for sure.
BC,I am a RESPONSIBLE adult, perfect credit, paid all bills on time, and helped others financially when they were in a tough spot. Husband lost job, lived off savings account until depleted and in order to keep house/cars and food on table to feed children, had to let one debt go......now this guy is calling and harrassing. So even the hardest working RESPONSIBLE people sometimes hit hard times. Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Don't be so smug about it, you might be next.
shill alert, Guess we know where you word, yeah? If you are going to post self-serving rants, at least don't do it on a website that has listed dozens of scams of this type. This is info that is gotten through mostly illegal means, from poor folks filling out surveys, looking for jobs, etc., and it is stolen by people like you. Folks, don't answer these jerks calls, period. You NEVER pick up a phone call from a number you don't recognize. And if you don't pick up, then that is what voicemail is for. If it's important, a message will be left. If it's not for you, or is one of those vague "you'd better call us back or lightening will stricke, the FBI will arrest you, and tidal waves will hit your house" type of messages, then definately don't call back. What a loser you are.
Got a call from this guy Frederick Hanna today asking me for my birthdate and social security number. I ask what it was for and he said he cant say til I tell him all the info he needed. I said no and hung up. How do you get rid of this guy? Who would be stupid and just give you BD & SS to this guy. Beware.....
@ lovely: Two years have passed since I originally wrote my reply, and let me correct you on a few things. I bought my first car with my own money shortly after I turned 18, an Audi A6 to be exact. I also had to pay my own insurance- $200 a month- while going to college full-time and working part-time. Also, no, my uncle has never given me money other than for Christmas, and not much then, maybe $100 or so. I come from a lower-middle class family (excluding Fred and his family, of course), so I know what it's like to fall on bad times. I know it's easy to get behind on payments. But, it all goes back to responsibility. If you're buying something, getting a loan, or whatever, you need to first be sure you'll be able to pay for it. I also understand that people lose their jobs- that's life, and yes, it sucks. Fred is only doing his job; businesses turn your accounts over to him, he tries to get those businesses their money. What's so wrong in that? You can't judge a person and say they're "horrible" without knowing them. Yes, he collects money that is OWED. If you loaned someone $10,000 and they never paid you back, wouldn't you be going after them? Of course you would. Companies and lenders aren't there to give money away- they loan it. And in case you didn't know, a loan is something you have to pay back. And to further ease your conscience, I am now almost 20, I live on my own about 500 miles away from the rest of my family, I am on my second car- a nice car that I- me, myself am paying for; I have groceries, living expenses, $400 per month insurance costs- all while working part-time at Subway. Yeah, no doubt I'll fall on hard times, but I live within my budget. If everyone did that, we wouldn't be having these silly, name-calling arguments. I find it funny that you say "See if your loving uncle throws you a break," especially after I said that he has been known to pay people's debts off for them- people that come to him and say, "Look, I've fallen on bad times, I can't afford this right now- will you work with me?" rather than jumping online and calling him ugly names. Responsibility- it all comes back to responsibility. Have a nice day.
