I got a call also claiming to be Microsoft. I can give you 29 other numbers these scam artist use.
2/9/2016 I received a call from this number and a young man with a thick Indian accent said that he was with Microsoft and asked if I had been having issues with my PC. I told him no and he mumbled something in another voice, and then hung up. These guys are a joke. Don't fall for the okie doke.
I just received a call from an individual stating he is will Windows technical support and that I have a virus on my computer. He told me to turn my computer on. His English was very difficult to understand. I asked him who he was with and he would only respond Windows technical support, turn your computer on now. I informed him that A. I don't know who he is, B I'm on the national do not call list; C I do not appreciate him telling me what to do and D I am terminating this call have a nice day. As soon as I hung up, my call rang again with the same # on my caller ID, however this individual stated that I called him and that he does not call 800 #'s. Somehow both of were called and connected by the 800# that claimed to be Window's technical support.
I was given this number by "Windows Technical Dept" saying it was for Microsoft Customer Care/Services. They couldn't give me their own number. They phoned me to say my computer was sending them error msgs saying that hackers were trying to access my computer. He gave his name as Jimmy Rogers and he said he was employed by Microsoft. I contacted Microsoft and they said that it was a fraudulent call, just hang up and don't give them access to your computer or give them any info. I didn't.
I just got the same thing. They told me they worked with Windows Security Department. When I asked which Microsoft office they were located at they said they weren't with Microsoft, but with Windows and they were based out of New York. I am computer savvy, so when I asked why my antivirus and malware detector didn't detect the files they claimed were infecting my computer they told me because I don't know how to operate my computer properly.I asked them basic questions that a real tech would know and they got every single one wrong, such as what OS am I running, what is the name associated with the registration, and what my activation key was. They struck out on all three so I hung up.Very thick Indian accent, but his name was Peter Wilkins.I pray no one falls for this.
Got a call today 1/14/14 from "Michael Jones" claiming to be from the "Tech Dept of Windows" telling me there is a problem with my computer. I asked him to repeat his name (heavy accent) and give me a number I could reach him at. He asked another guy in the room (random background noise, but not like a call center) and then gave me the 800-102-1100 number. I told him I would have my tech savvy husband check into it. But I won't even bother hubby with this - it was obviously a scam. They did not ask details nor did I give them any info about my computer. I hung up after they gave me their phone number. I believe they already knew my name when they called.
I just got called by the same number....very thick accent. Same story...I hung up on him.
My brother in law got a call same story but he have him access to his computer is there anything he can do prevent any bad things from happening ?
I just got the same call as above, a man with a thick accent claiming to work for Microsoft, informing me my computer was infected with a virus (curious "Microsoft" would call me about this considering I use a Mac with no Microsoft software). It's a scam and when I kept asking him for "more information" about the infection he got curt, muttered something in a language I don't recognize and hung up on me.
