Just got a call from someone who said he was associated with the customer services division of Windows Service Department. He said my computer was being hacked and all my files were about to be corrupted. He said he had to check the Events Viewer box on my computer to fix the problem. When I said I already had a security program in place, he said it was only for viruses, not for hacking problems. FTR, I did NOT give him access. I said I was too old to understand what he was talking about. He said his name was Lucas Brown. He also gave me his universal ID #, saying it was issued by the Microsoft Corp. Tech Dept. When I asked for a call back number, he gave 800-102-1100. I finally said I couldn't deal with this problem right now and hung up on him. I should have hung up from the get go, as I usually do with these kinds of calls, but this guy was really persistent and more convincing than your usual scammer. Future recipients of such calls, BEWARE!!!
Got two calls saying my computer is alerting MS with some Essential service failure. He couldn't even tell me the hostname or anything else to identify the system. Extension x8010.
I fell for thee scam They ran me through several check list itmens and it seemed to be real, includi
I've been getting these scam calls for months. Usually from HP Tech Support or MS Tech Support. I almost fell for it the first time, but came to my senses when I realized what was being tried. The calls persist, and I do what i can to play with these India "John, Jack, Mark, etc" phonies. I even told them I was an FBI agent, and loudly whispered to my wife to "start the trace." They hung up. I once told them that I knew where they were, and that "they would be smart to vacate the building, as I was only minutes away from their location with a fully loaded M-16 and was going to take them ALL to meet the Devil himself." They still persist! Next time...an airhorn blast.
Same here...soliciting federal grants of all things...theyre working from a pc ...possibly a mac...and think they cant be traced...these people hacked ph numbers to use from verizon and who knows who else...also they are working from it appears out of the country
