Just got a 800 427-2449 call. It's definitely phishing. Dialing the number led to a recording offering a "free $100 gift card" scam -- all you have to do it...give them your credit card #!To be sure, I checked with BOA fraud. They have no record of this number in their company, and they never called me.
I called the number on the back of my card. It is from BOA card Fraud office. I still agree with many of the posts here and call the number on the back of your card. The fraud dept notes your account and the representative you do reach will transfer you.
Your right ! this is a scam. I called up and they asked me for my 16 digit card number. no legit company would ask for that info.....SCAM
This was a legit BofA number, though I hung up and called the number on the back of the card. The woman I then spoke with verified it was a legitimate number.
you are way to harsh, be thankful that BOA is very vigilant at keeping you protected. yes it is annoying to have the card placed on temp hold to do a fraud check but it is better than other financial institutions that don't care at all to go the extra mile. JFYI when you get this incoming call, call your card via the number on your invoice to MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE you are talking to your card service rep. They will help and take care of you and the hold will be removed when answering a few of their questions. I have had BOA over 20 years and they have been absolutely awesome (albeit annoyingly protective for my on good)!
if you have a credit card owned by bank of america and this number calls you, let it goto voice mail. get your invoice and CALL THE TOLL FREE NUMBER ON YOUR BILLING INVOICE to talk to them directly, never dial the umbers/codes given on that message. scammers will do ANYTHING including recording your voice to use for fraudulent purposes.
I work for a real fraud unit at a bank. No "company" will handle activity for different card issuers. There are federal regulations that will not allow it. This is a scam utilized to gain, little pieces of information on you, until they form a bigger picture to scam you. Provide no Info. and ONLY call the number on the back of your card.
I just received the same call saying there was something wrong with our bank account and there was suspicious activity. When I called the bank of america they said they would not call and ask for information and it was fraud.
I GOT A CALL ON 8-25-09 FROM UNKNOWN NAME AND NUMBER ON THE CALLER ID.THEY LEFT A MESSAGE TO CONTACT THEM AT 1800 427 2449.they said they were calling from the B/A fraud division.please do not call!!!!! the # is not from B/A, and they'll try to get or steal more personal info from you.Contact your bank to report this...
Okay, egg on my face. I got a couple of automated calls again (no one there when I answered) and called back the number and gave the woman on the other end a piece of my mind. Turns out it is a third party that contacts cardholders, and the card they reported IS one I have (or had....). I believe they may handle various banks. And the party at the other end was gracious, considering my rant!It was someone trying to use a card of mine, so I called the number on the back of my card. Online charge from Apple, but just a vendor's $1 check to see if it was a good account. Didn't match up with other information given, so the full charge was not approved. Needless to say, the account is now closed and a new card on the way.So, B of A it was not, but worth checking out, after all.
