Received a call stating fraudulant charges had been placed on my credit card (did not say WHAT card) but asked to return the call it was urgent. I called the number on caller ID (they didn't leave it in the message). The "representative" stated his name was Robert (the first tiem I called) and Albert the second time (same voice). He then asked for my credit card number. I asked what credit card? He said OK, how about your phone number? I replied, you have that, this number called me. He then asked for my social security number to look up my account. I said, how about I call the police and report this number? He then asked do you have a credit card? I said No. He said then disregard the message.
Got a call from 1-678-797-7000 (GA) it recorded on my voicemail and talked about fraud charges and told me to call 1-800-427-2449. I called the number on the back of my BOA CC and they verified there was a fraud alert on my account but I confirmed the charges.
Received another call from same number the following day. This time I pressed "1" to acknowledge that the caller was speaking to whom they were trying to contact. For verification the caller (automated) asked that I either enter either my zip code or the last 4 digits of my social security number. I entered my zip code as that was something that most anybody who wanted it would already have and I couldn't be revealing anything all that personal or useful for a scam. The automated caller then listed a $15 internet charge that I had made the evening before. I pressed the key pad number requested to indicate that this was a legitimate charge. That was pretty much the end of the call (all automated) and no further information was requested by the caller. So, this did seem to be a legitimate call. I can't explain why FIA Card Services wouldn't know this charge monitoring service company was calling on their behalf. But, even if this was a legitimate fraud monitoring call, scam artists can usually make anything they want appear on the caller ID, so other calls appearing to come from this same number may not be legitimate.
Valid Bank of America Fraud department. Verified with an email to me prior to the call and to both of my registered phones.
My mother received a call from 1-800-427-2449, but the caller indicated that they were calling from the United Bank of California which as far as I can tell, does not exist. They said that there were some possible fraudulent charges on my grandfather's Platinum VISA. My mother controls his bank accounts and he doesn't have a VISA from that particular bank. The caller then asked for her social security number (which she did NOT give out) and asked for the card number. Whether it seems legitimate or not, that information should never be asked for. Be careful!
I got a call from this number and was a bit suspicious so I called the number on the back of my card to verify. It was legit. Someone was trying to use my account.
My mother got a similar call with a message left on her answering machine. When she called the number back, they said they were the United Bank of CA which I can't find a website or phone number for. They said they were calling about my grandfather's platinum card which isn't something he has. Then they asked for HER social security number and the credit card number. I keep reading these messages that say the number is legitimately BofA fraud line, but I don't believe it. Her call came through on Friday, Sept. 25th. Very weird. My mom was actually able to talk to a live person, but again, they asked for information that shouldn't be asked for. Have you heard back from them again? Just curious.
I received the call, but not from this number. The voicemail did not identify as from BOA, but from cardmember services and asked to call the 800 #. After making bigger than usual purchase I expected the call, but wasn't sure if it was legit.. After reading here I decided to call the number on the back of the card. It seems as they already knew why I was calling; I did not have to make any selections. The machine asked me to verify my information and confirm the purchase. I did not have to speak with the person.
I did receive a call and voice mail from that phone # and it was my bankcard services verifying about $5,000.00 in charges I made today for a vacation. I do have a fraud alert on all my cards and get calls when large purchases are made
